The Wagon Wheel Theatre Was The Dream Of Herbert Petrie. He had founded a concert brass ensemble known as “Petrie’s White Hussars” and that ensemble played concerts all across the country and abroad.
During World War 1, Major Petrie attended performances at the Penthouse Theatre in Fort Lawton, Washington, the country’s first theatre-in-the-round. When he returned to Warsaw, he remained so interested in the idea that he was determined to recreate the experience here in his home town.
Major Petrie, his wife Mildred, along with John and Kitty Butterfield held the Wagon Wheel Playhouse’s first season in 1956. Besides the tent for the theatre, they also opened the Wagon Wheel Restaurant at the top of the hill.
The actual facility was a tent with a gravel floor, canvas chairs, and an old chicken coop that served as the shop where they would build the sets and costumes. The “orchestra” consisted of Vernon Rector playing the Hammond organ.
It was a brand new experience: theatre-in-the-round! Audiences were so close to the action onstage that they were practically a part of the show. It was the magic of live theatre in Warsaw, Indiana, and somehow it all worked.Contact information

My first guitar was a $50.00 special that my Dad bought for me. I am a self taught musician who began with an electric six-string but soon changed to the bass guitar. As a teenager I started local rock bands and played at the local venues. Later on family life called and I gave up my rock ways. But my need to be around music took over once again and in September 2006 I opened Pepperell Music Center. It has nationally recognized graduate and professional schools in business, law, engineering, pastoral ministries, counseling psychology, education and theology.
The 8,800-student, Jesuit, Catholic university draws on a more than 450-year-tradition of educating the whole person for a life of service and leadership. This diverse community of scholars, characterized by small classes and a values-oriented curriculum, is dedicated to educating students for competence, conscience, and compassion.
Santa Clara University, founded in 1851 by the Society of Jesus as “Santa Clara College,” is California’s oldest operating institution of higher learning. It was established on the site of Mission Santa Clara de Asís, the eighth of the original 21 California missions.
The “college” originally operated as a preparatory school and did not offer courses of collegiate rank until 1853. Following the Civil War, enrollment increased and by 1875, the size of the student body was 275. One-third of the students were enrolled in the collegiate division; the remainder attended the college’s preparatory and high school departments. In 1985, the University adopted Santa Clara University as its official name.
The 106-acre campus is located in Santa Clara, Calif., at the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay, approximately two miles from San Jose International Airport. The University enjoys a moderate climate year-round; the sun shines approximately 300 days a year.
At the center of the campus is Mission Santa Clara de Asís, surrounded by the roses and palm trees of the historic Mission Gardens. The more than 50 buildings on campus include residence halls, two libraries, a student center, and extensive athletic facilities.Contact information
