TROPHIES
By Edward Kenny
I saw it like a silent movie,
My name was the only one they'd call,
Her voice was the only one that moved me,
So, I could take the stage and not fall.
It was the last game for a player,
A young boy who once had big league dreams,
Also, for a starry-eyed cheerleader,
With a smile for him of brilliant beams.
Trophies, trophies, (CHORUS)
Silent shiny heroes and their sweet heroines,
Trophies, trophies,
Never speaking of their losses, only wins.
As the years passed like bullets through me,
She stopped chasing, my heart paralyzed,
She would never know what she meant to me,
Or how long she'd had me hypnotized.
One day by chance as we were meeting,
Where there shined a fading summer sun,
And I wondered if she too was hurting,
As we spoke of news in Washington.
Trophies, trophies, (CHORUS)
Silent shiny heroes and their sweet heroines,
Trophies, trophies,
Never speaking of their losses, only wins.
A subject i don't enter lightly,
Afraid to open a bitter can, (Middle Eight)
A springtime girl once bloomed so bright,
An ugly duckling became a man.
Look back with me...
As a golden athlete prevails,
Beating the odds of the loving games,
And with a silver-winged woman he sails,
Up until they both come down in flames.
Blowing the dust off old memories,
Sorting through the fragments of a dream,
Funny looking at these old trophies,
Could they be as rusty as they seem?
Trophies, trophies,
Silent shiny heroes and their sweet heroines,
Trophies, trophies,
Never speaking of their losses, only wins.
