The Songbay Lyric Writing Competition 2020

Winners to be announced first week of December 2020

Our annual lyric writing competition is here!

To enter the competition, write an original lyric that includes the following three words…

• Flamboyant
• Ramble
• Hope

The words can appear in the lyric in any order but must include all three words. 

The words must be used exactly as they are written above. For example, ‘rambling’ or ‘rambles’ will not be accepted.

The lyric may be written in any genre but must be structured in common song format. For example, it must contain two to four clear Verse sections (minimum 2, maximum 4 verses) and similarly, two to four clear Chorus sections (minimum 2, maximum 4 choruses). It must also contain a middle section (commonly referred to as a ‘Bridge section’).

1st Prize

Your winning lyric will be set to music – turned into a professionally composed, recorded, and produced song by our specialist songwriting team. You will then be able to use it as you wish. For example, you could release the song, seek media placements, approach publishers and record companies, license it, sell it on download sites, etc.

2nd prize

Free use of our new Lyric Improvement Service plus One Year ‘Ultimate Subscription’ to Songbay.

You’ll receive feedback on your lyric from our professional songwriting team, including suggestions for improvements and techniques you could apply to future lyrics. This service helps lyricists to improve their writing and increase the chance their lyrics will be licensed.

3rd prize

Free use of our Lyric Improvement Service plus One Year ‘Professional Subscription’ to Songbay.

4th prize

One year ‘Advanced Subscription’ to Songbay.

All winners will also receive promotion on our blog and social media pages.
