Sally wore her scrubs so many nights, calm in the storm and fight
A nurse at the Hospital, she brought folks back to life
She stood by me through surgery, steady hands and care
You don’t forget a soul like that when they’ve been right there
Steve built his life on river work, forty plus years so strong
Working with Fiberglass and barge covers, he kept it moving on
From the Appalachian roots they came, tough as they are kind
Hard work runs deep in that Kentucky bloodline
Verse 2
Sally looks a little deeper than most folks ever do
Won’t let it go ’til she’s torn the truth in two
Emily brings that family light, bright in everything she does
And together they’re the kind of friends you only get from love
Chorus
Our Kentucky friends, they’ve stood the test of time
Twenty years and counting, their hearts still tied with mine
From Calvert City living on the Tennessee River bend
You can trust them with your soul, our Kentucky friends
They’re steady through the hard times, they’re loyal to the end
No judgment in their voices, just truth you can depend
Through every high and low, they’re always there again
That’s the kind of bond you find in our Kentucky friends
Bridge
And I’ve seen a lot of roads in this life I’ve been on
But not many that feel like a place I belong
Through laughter and hard times, they’ve carried me through
That kind of friendship is something real and true
When the world gets heavy and I don’t understand
They’re right there beside me, steadying my hand
No matter the distance, no matter the end
I’m always coming home to my Kentucky friends
Final Chorus

OUR KENTUCKY FRIENDS

Thirty-seven years, and I still see that night
In a crowded club under neon light
You walked in and changed my life
And I thank God for it every day

From a chance encounter to a lifetime plan
Girl, I’m still your man
And I’ll love you through it all
Like the night I answered love’s call

An attractive blonde… with hair so bright
I couldn’t help but stare that night

I don’t remember… if I said hello

My friend said, “Hey let’s go to another club down the road”

5 minutes later I was just standing there at the bar

you walked in… like a fresh breath of air

You came right up… and said with a grin
“I see you followed us again”

I laughed and said… “How could that be?
I was here before you… you followed me”

hi my names Bart
she said I'm Karla
i said that's a beautiful name

Can I buy you a drink
But I got distracted… and forgot to pay,

I didn’t think i maked the best impression that night
So I stepped outside… to clear my mind

That’s when I saw Karla in her friends Jeep

So I walked over… and apologized for the drink

i ask Can i sit and talk awhile
And she welcomed me… with that smile

Then five minutes later… trouble came around

That’s when the bouncers came out and told trouble to leave right now

We talked some more… and she looked at me and said
“Why didn’t you tell me… you were a college wrestler and football star”

And I smiled and said
“Why didn’t you tell me… you worked at the University
And at Memphis Hospital… as an ICU nurse?”

We talked for hours… and time stood still
Like love had found us… against our will

Thirty-seven years later were still together
i love you and if we are together for Thirty-sevenyears more
even if i dont remember my name i will love you just the same maybe even more
Karla your the one I adore

THE NIGHT WE MET

One day I was given
A bag of Acapulco Gold
From my buddy named Bruce
Back when we were young and bold
We were wrestlers on the team
Still livin’ college life
Took second place in Tennessee State Wrestling Tournament
Man, those were the days

[Verse 2]
One night we rolled ten joints
And laid ’em on my truck dash
We made a crazy promise
Said we’d smoke to the last
We almost pulled it off
But we ran into one fear
Somewhere around midnight
We started runnin’ low on beer

[Chorus]
Oh what a night
Young and wild and free
Smoke rollin’ through the parking lot
Just Bruce and me
Laughin’ at the world
Like we had nothin’ to lose
One hell of a memory
Thanks to my friend Bruce

[Verse 3]
I walked into Kroger
To buy another case
Put the beer into the buggy
Started headin’ my way
Then I saw a Coke machine
Thought a couple cokes sounded good
Beer and Coca-Cola
Man, I swear they taste good

[Verse 4]
I reached down in my jacket
For the change I used to save
Loose coins from an old glass jar
Every penny that I made
But when I pulled my hand back out
That change went flyin’ everywhere
Rolled all across the Kroger floor
While everybody stopped and stared

[Bridge]
And I thought to myself
Man, I’m way too high for this
So I pushed that buggy out the door
And left twenty dollars missed
People looked in disbelief
As I rolled on through the night
But losin’ twenty bucks didn’t matter
Everything still felt alright

[Final Chorus]
Oh what a night
Young and dumb and free
Acapulco Gold and cheap cold beer
Me and Bruce in Tennessee
Even though I lost twenty dollars
Man, I’d do it all again
One hell of a gift
And one hell of a friend

[Outro]
Thank you Bruce
You were one hell of a guy

BRUCE’S GIFT

The Man We Wish We Knew
Spoken Intro:
This is a story about my great uncle, John…
and some of the things he accomplished along his journey through life.
A man born in the late 1800s…
whose life carried him from Arkansas roots
to moments that made national attention…
and stories that still live on through family today.
Verse 1
In 1896 John was born
In a house in Pine Bluff, Arkansas
I hear he had a warm personality
Something we wish we could have seen
He played college football
At Washington and Lee
When he had to leave
Something big had begun
That’s when the USA entered World War One
As a lieutenant, he spent time
Training soldiers at Camp Pike
Verse 2
And in 1927 he got national attention
He had a cameraman
Taking shots of the Mississippi River Flood from a plane

He even had newspapers flown
To people trapped in that same flood
The president of Memphis Publishing
Said he believed in equal pay
For all workers back in that day
Spoken Bridge
Some lives are measured in years…
but others are measured in impact.
And even though time moved on,
his name stayed in the stories passed down
through family who never had the chance
to meet him face to face.
Still… he’s remembered.
Still spoken of with respect.
Final Verse
Then John passed away
His funeral in Pine Bluff attended
by family, friends,
and people he worked with along the way
Graceland Cemetery
Five truckloads of flowers
covered his grave
where he rests today

Great-nephews holding onto stories
of the great uncle they never knew
Cheers to the man
we still wish we knew

The story of a man we wish we knew

Great Uncle John Sorrells

Verse 1
I got a little brother, born two years apart,
His name is Bob and my name is Bart.
We were born in Memphis, where our roots were laid,
Mama was a teacher, Daddy was a CPA.
Through the years we shared a thousand memories,
The kind that stay with you like a Tennessee breeze.
Verse 2
We'd play all day on an old tire swing,
Dreaming up adventures and everything.
One day we decided we'd dig ourselves a pool,
But with a shovel full of dirt, he caught me above my eye—
Just two young boys being fools.
Some days we fought like cats and dogs, it's true,
But if he ever needed me, I'd come running through.
I'd run through a brick wall without a second thought,
'Cause that's what brothers do, no matter what.
Chorus
A bond between brothers runs deep and strong,
Built on love and loyalty that carries on.
Through all the years and all we've been through,
There's no greater friend than a brother who's true.
Trust and understanding, through joy and pain,
No matter where life leads us, that bond remains.
Verse 3
One day Bob was hit by a car out on the street,
I felt it in my gut and my heart skipped a beat.
Thank God above he was scratched but fine,
A blessing I'll be grateful for all my life.
Bob's gifted in so many ways it's hard to explain,
Playing piano, drums, and guitar with ease.
He was a good athlete and a natural too,
Seems like everything he touched he knew what to do.
Verse 4
One night at a pub crawl in Memphis, Tennessee,
A seven-foot monster was putting Bob down.
So I popped that giant upside the head,
While Bob kept two others from jumping in instead.
From hiking mountain trails in Arkansas skies,
To cattle farms and roads where old memories lie,
From Memphis, Tennessee, to Kentucky's rolling land,
We've shared a lifetime side by side as brothers and friends.
Bridge
We've got companionship that time can't erase,
A brother's love is something nothing can replace.
Though miles may separate us and years may roll by,
The memories we share will never die.
Final Chorus
A bond between brothers runs deep and strong,
Built on love and loyalty that carries on.
Through every road we've traveled, every laugh and tear,
You've always been my brother and my friend so dear.
Trust and understanding, through joy and pain,
No matter where life leads us, that bond remains.
Outro
I wish you lived closer so we'd spend more time,
With you and your family making memories of our own.
Though thousands of miles may keep us apart,
My brother and his family will forever fill my heart.
And as long as I'm living, one thing will stay true—
I'll always be thankful, my brother, for you

MY BROTHER

Just south of Kentucky Dam where the water runs wide
There’s a hidden little hollow where the summer comes alive
Pisgah Bay off the shoreline, tucked back in the trees
Where the limestone walls meet a Kentucky breeze
Boats start rollin’ in like a weekend parade
Droppin’ anchors in the shade that the rock quarry made
Coolers full, radios up, voices start to blend
And strangers turn into friends again
[Pre-Chorus]
Tie ‘em up tight, side by side
Bumpers bumpin’ on the lake tide
No one’s worried about the time
Just livin’ life on a thin blue line
[Chorus]
Down at Party Cove
Where the good times float and the worries go
Rock Quarry water runnin’ deep and slow
Cliff jump high then you let it go
Swimmin’, divin’, floatin’ all day long
Speakers on the boat playin’ country songs
Sunset paintin’ that golden glow
That’s how it goes down at Party Cove
[Verse 2]
Sixteen acres of a summertime dream
Cold drinks shinin’ in a sunbeam stream
Some are floatin’, some are jumpin’ in
Some just laughin’ with old and new friends
Water gets dark where the deep drops down
Up to a hundred feet where the shadows drown
But up on top it’s a wild, loud scene
Like a floating town on a Kentucky scene
[Pre-Chorus]
No clocks here, no need to go
Just one more round before we roll
Music echoes off the stone
And nobody really wants to go home
[Chorus]
Down at Party Cove
Where the good times float and the worries go
Rock Quarry water runnin’ deep and slow
Cliff jump high then you let it go
Swimmin’, divin’, floatin’ all day long
Speakers on the boat playin’ country songs
Sunset paintin’ that golden glow
That’s how it goes down at Party Cove
[Bridge]
When the sky turns black and the lake turns still
You can hear that laughter rollin’ over the hill
Boat lights flicker like a neon show
And the night keeps singin’ slow
[Final Chorus]
Down at Party Cove
Where the memories stay long after you go
Rock Quarry nights and a summer glow
We’re holdin’ on while the warm winds blow
Swimmin’, divin’, floatin’ all night long
Every stranger sings the same old song
If you ever need a place to go
It’s right down here at Party Cove

PARTY COVE

Her name was Edra
But I always knew her as Gran
She was born in 1907
In Crossno, Missouri
She was a longtime resident
Of Mississippi County, Arkansas
She was a farmer
That loved her family so much
She worked so hard
To put them through college
My mother told stories
Of how hard my aunt and uncle worked
Out in the fields
Even after the paid workers left
But she told me
My Gran worked as hard as any man
And they never gave up
She lived through the Great Depression
And the Mississippi River Flood
She was the glue
That held our family together
As a child
We made so many memories
Riding in her big Mercury car
And riding horses in the yard
Running trot lines in a small boat
and Hiding in my Mothers car again
Sliding down the tin roof barn
Riding in her bean truck to the gin

Swinging in her side yard with my brother and Kin
And throwing tomatoes at the barn
She didn't whip me hard
I knew it was wrong.. I told her I wouldn’t do it again

She didn't whip me hard
I knew it was wrong
But I still loved her so strong
She was the glue
That held our family together
Our family gathered
During Thanksgiving and Christmas
She cooked on two stoves
And made every grandchild
Their favorite dish
It was always
A happy celebration of family
We did this every year
Every summer, on Saturdays
She took us to the pool
And sat in the sun
While we swam
She always went to church on Sundays
And picked pecans every year
As a child
I was amazed
She was the glue
That held our family together
Now most of my family is gone
And I miss them every day
I hold my head up high
And say my Gran’s name was Edra
And we miss her every day
We will always miss
The love she gave us
Each and every day

GRAN

There’s a couple I hold so dear
They’ve stood together through thirty-six years
And shared a whole lot of laughter and beers

They give each other so much love
A bond God made from heaven above
A perfect fit, handpicked with love

[Chorus]
Raise a glass to thirty-six years
Through all the laughter, through all the tears
Still holding on like they did back then
Best friends and lovers again and again
Some things in life are meant to be
Like your forever love story

[Verse 2]
No matter what may come their way
They’ll stand together day by day
Side by side, come what may

I forgot about your anniversary
But I hope this song shows the love I see
From car phone calls to Christmases past
I know your love was built to last

[Final Chorus]
Raise a glass to thirty-six years
Through all the laughter, through all the tears
Still holding on like they did back then
Best friends and lovers again and again
Some things in life are meant to be
Like your forever love story

So here’s to you both on your anniversary
Keep loving each other through eternity

Though miles may separate us and years may roll by,
The memories we share will never die.
Final Chorus
A bond between brothers runs deep and strong,
Built on love and loyalty that carries on.
Through every road we've traveled, every laugh and tear,
You've always been my brother and my friend so dear.
Trust and understanding, through joy and pain,
No matter where life leads us, that bond remains.
Outro
I wish you lived closer so we'd spend more time,
With you and your family making memories of our own.
Though thousands of miles may keep us apart,
My brother and his family will forever fill my heart.
And as long as I'm living, one thing will stay true—
I'll always be thankful, my brother, for you

MY BROTHER

Just south of Kentucky Dam where the water runs wide
There’s a hidden little hollow where the summer comes alive
Pisgah Bay off the shoreline, tucked back in the trees
Where the limestone walls meet a Kentucky breeze
Boats start rollin’ in like a weekend parade
Droppin’ anchors in the shade that the rock quarry made
Coolers full, radios up, voices start to blend
And strangers turn into friends again
[Pre-Chorus]
Tie ‘em up tight, side by side
Bumpers bumpin’ on the lake tide
No one’s worried about the time
Just livin’ life on a thin blue line
[Chorus]
Down at Party Cove
Where the good times float and the worries go
Rock Quarry water runnin’ deep and slow
Cliff jump high then you let it go
Swimmin’, divin’, floatin’ all day long
Speakers on the boat playin’ country songs
Sunset paintin’ that golden glow
That’s how it goes down at Party Cove
[Verse 2]
Sixteen acres of a summertime dream
Cold drinks shinin’ in a sunbeam stream
Some are floatin’, some are jumpin’ in
Some just laughin’ with old and new friends
Water gets dark where the deep drops down
Up to a hundred feet where the shadows drown
But up on top it’s a wild, loud scene
Like a floating town on a Kentucky scene
[Pre-Chorus]
No clocks here, no need to go
Just one more round before we roll
Music echoes off the stone
And nobody really wants to go home
[Chorus]
Down at Party Cove
Where the good times float and the worries go
Rock Quarry water runnin’ deep and slow
Cliff jump high then you let it go
Swimmin’, divin’, floatin’ all day long
Speakers on the boat playin’ country songs
Sunset paintin’ that golden glow
That’s how it goes down at Party Cove
[Bridge]
When the sky turns black and the lake turns still
You can hear that laughter rollin’ over the hill
Boat lights flicker like a neon show
And the night keeps singin’ slow
[Final Chorus]
Down at Party Cove
Where the memories stay long after you go
Rock Quarry nights and a summer glow
We’re holdin’ on while the warm winds blow
Swimmin’, divin’, floatin’ all night long
Every stranger sings the same old song
If you ever need a place to go
It’s right down here at Party Cove
