OUR KENTUCKY FRIENDS
By Costa Rica Bart
Sally wore her scrubs so many nights, calm in the storm and fight
A nurse at the Hospital, she brought folks back to life
She stood by me through surgery, steady hands and care
You don’t forget a soul like that when they’ve been right there
Steve built his life on river work, forty plus years so strong
Working with Fiberglass and barge covers, he kept it moving on
From the Appalachian roots they came, tough as they are kind
Hard work runs deep in that Kentucky bloodline
Verse 2
Sally looks a little deeper than most folks ever do
Won’t let it go ’til she’s torn the truth in two
Emily brings that family light, bright in everything she does
And together they’re the kind of friends you only get from love
Chorus
Our Kentucky friends, they’ve stood the test of time
Twenty years and counting, their hearts still tied with mine
From Calvert City living on the Tennessee River bend
You can trust them with your soul, our Kentucky friends
They’re steady through the hard times, they’re loyal to the end
No judgment in their voices, just truth you can depend
Through every high and low, they’re always there again
That’s the kind of bond you find in our Kentucky friends
Bridge
And I’ve seen a lot of roads in this life I’ve been on
But not many that feel like a place I belong
Through laughter and hard times, they’ve carried me through
That kind of friendship is something real and true
When the world gets heavy and I don’t understand
They’re right there beside me, steadying my hand
No matter the distance, no matter the end
I’m always coming home to my Kentucky friends
Final Chorus
Our Kentucky friends, they’ve stood the test of time
Twenty years and counting, their hearts still tied with mine
From Calvert City living on the Tennessee River bend
You can trust them with your soul, our Kentucky friends
They’re steady through the hard times, they’re loyal to the end
No judgment in their voices, just truth you can depend
Through every high and low, they’re always there again
That’s the kind of bond you find in our Kentucky friends
