I thought I heard you call across the lake

A few beers in, your voice came on the wind

You take yourself too seriously, my friend

Slow down and smell the flowers, tell some jokes and make amends.

I swear I saw you flying in the sky

Up among the heavens, shining bright

Your silver wings all lit up by the moon

Calling out to me beyond the stars, too far to be my loon.

I thought I heard you cry beyond the stone

A wail or hoot to tell us how you’ve been

I held my breath and hoped you’d cry once more.

But you are lost out on the lake, and I am stuck here on the shore.

I swear I saw you flying in the sky

Up among the heavens, shining bright

Your silver wings all lit up by the moon

Calling out to me beyond the stars, too far to be my loon.

Nevermore, the raven states. Obscured by place and time.

And once again, I must pretend that everything is fine.

To carry on, and row about, and paddle in the deep.

With nothing more than your memory to haunt me in my sleep.

I thought I heard you call across the lake

A few beers in, your voice came on the wind.

Loon

Throw another quarter
Doesn’t matter
Drop the bucket in for water
Just to find it’s all run dry
Hit the road and head out west
For a better life
Just to learn that all your best
Days are far behind.

Shooting star
There you are
Toss the eyelash
Over shoulder
Break the bones
Of the bird
Seeking fortune
In November
But the well - is - dry.

Wishing well (x3)
I wish you well.
Wishing well (x3)
Time will tell

Toss another log now
On the fire
Dusk faded in to dawn now
The marshmallows are expired.
Hit the bong and get some rest
there is no better life
Did you learn that all your best
Days are far behind.

Shooting star
There you are
Toss the eyelash
Over shoulder
Break the bones
Of the bird
Seeking fortune
In November
But the well - is - dry.

Wishing well (x3)
I wish you well.
Wishing well (x3)
Time will tell

(Bridge)
It’s all a choice, they say
And deep inside you know it to be true
No one but yourself to blame
But I know you're tired too.

Wishing well (x3)
I wish you well.

About Me

Bio

New England poetic folk soul with a rock and roll edge. I've been writing since I I could crawl and dreamed of becoming a star long before leaving high school. I've performed covers and original music live in my teens and my twenties before trading it all in for the stable corporate hellscape. Over the years I've continued to write and have decades of lyrics and poetry behind me and honestly, some of it is pretty good. As for a resume, it's currently about as impressive as wearing my class ring. I've done nothing for 25 years and I'm bursting at the seams!
