“Can’t Say for Sure”
Written by Stephen Madaras
Verse 1
They say that love’s electric, a spark that fades with time,
But I’ve seen old folks dancing slow, still holding hands in line.
Is heaven just a story, or a place beyond the blue?
I haven’t any proof of that, but I feel it might be true.
Chorus
Some things that you can’t measure, some things you can’t explain,
Like the way a song remembers or how thunder sounds your name.
I don’t need a paper trail or a courtroom to decide—
Those things that can’t be proven, faith will help you to abide.
So I hold on to the mystery, like a compass in the dark,
Though truths may not be written down, they all still leave a mark.
Verse 2
I’ve heard that prayers are whispers that get lost in empty air.
But I’ve felt peace come rolling in when no one else was there.
They say that fate’s just random, like luck dressed up in boots,
But I’ve seen signs in sunsets and truth in tangled roots.
Bridge
Is a soul just made-up fiction, or something real inside?
Is a promise just a sentence, a vow that you can hide?
I don’t claim to know it all, but I know what I believe—
That some things live in silence, and inside they never leave.
Verse 3
Like déjà vu and gut instincts, and guardian angels near,
The way a dog just knows you’re sad, or how dreams can feel sincere.
The pull of hometown memories, the hush before first snow,
The feel that someone’s watching, though no one’s there to show.
Chorus
Some things that you can’t measure, some things you can’t explain,
Like the way a song remembers or how thunder sounds your name.
I don’t need a paper trail or a courtroom to decide—
Those things that can’t be proven, faith will help you to abide.
So I hold on to the mystery, like a compass in the dark,
Verse 4
They say that faith is foolish, just hope dressed up in dreams,
But I’ve seen faith move mountains and mend the broken seams.
It’s not about the answers, or proof you hold in hand—
It’s trusting in the silence when you don’t quite understand.
Final Chorus
Some things that you can’t measure, some things you can’t explain,
Like the way a song remembers or how thunder sounds your name.
I don’t need a paper trail or a courtroom to decide—
Those things that can’t be proven, faith will help you to abide.
So I hold on to the mystery, let it guide me through the night,
Cause there’s things they say are proven wrong-- and still they feel so right.
So I trust what moves inside me, even when the facts are few,
Those things they say are proven wrong-- might turn out to be true.
