When I was a kid growing up
Grandpa would sometimes say
What will you leave behind in this world
When you leave this world behind
Someday

He’d take my hand and pull me close
And sit me on his knee
With his strong but gentle hands
He would hold me tenderly

He’d say the house will fall someday
The car will turn to rust
But the love you show to others
Will never turn to dust

The clock will keep on tickin
The seasons come and go
Your days on earth will be measured
By the kindness that you show

Your grandma, God rest her soul
Was caring, kind and sweet
She was like a ray of sunshine
To everyone that she'd meet

It's in those dark, desperate hours
The comfort that you send
The way you stand beside someone
Who needs a faithful friend

It's hope you offer when they're down
A shoulder when they cry
A guiding light to see them through
Beneath a stormy sky
