It happened twice in my life that I had a very good friend...and that friend had a wife or girlfriend...whom I also became very close too. It just so happened that in both cases my 'friends" had to be away for some periods of time and I spent time alone with their partners. I still recall to this day the intense desire and longing that grew within me as I spent time alone with those women...and I knew that they also had strong 'feelings' about me. No words were spoken, no kisses exchanged. Everyday an act of being platonic friends while a volcano simmered inside me. A battle between loyalty to my friends, desire ...and respect for the years they had invested in each other. .
I am glad I kept my moral compass and didn't betray a friend, selfishly destroy a relationship or surrender recklessly to my, our, instincts.
