A morning birdsong echoes
Through the pale grey sky
The sunlight struggles
Burning clouds
As I watch it rise

The day is green
In many ways
And pastures bright ahead
A calmness taking over me
While the sun turns red

The heat is gonna be here
Any hour now
Count your blessings
As you wipe
The sweat from
Off your brow

Should have stayed in winter
But the songbirds
Wouldn’t sing
In a frozen ice hole
Or an agonizing spring

Echoes from the decades gone
Come circling again
When there’s time to contemplate
The season’s bitter end

The sky above is
Warning me
To take heed of
The sun
And in the heat
It punishes
For everything
I’ve done
