I arrive at the mansion gates, rich old, unsettling beautiful
The stone lions by the stairs watch me, as if they seen me before
I reach for the ornate front door, before I grasp it, it swings wide open
A portrait of my wife hangs on the wall, we met in the Iraq war
In the Foyer, a Victorian sofa, I do not recognize
Beside the fireplace my Fender Stratocaster leans on a stand.
A framed photo catches my eye-Backstage guitar in hand after my first show
These things are mine, yet I've never been here, I don't understand

A force pulls me through the dark
Each step I take, I'm pulled in more
My eyes search every corner, every door
I walk alone,, my fate lies within these halls
Figures stir beyond my reach
Every hallway twists, every wall will teach
Each step closer, leaves the past behind
I can't stop--this house consumes my mind
I walk down the hallway, Grammies with my name shine on the shelves
On the wall, a group photo of my band, faces I know too well
One small concert poster on the wall, dated a year from now catches my eye
I see a picture of my wife and me ten years from now at the waldorf hotel
A snapshot of me and my best friend, guitars in hand after an unknown show
I step back bewildered-these images are of a life not yet mine
From deeper in the hall, faint piano keys plays a rhythm I know
I'm drawn to the music----as if it's sending me a sign

A force pulls me through the dark
Each step I take, I'm pulled in more
My eyes search every corner, every door
I walk alone,, my fate lies within these halls
Figures stir beyond my reach
Every hallway twists, every wall will teach
Each step closer, leaves the past behind
I can't stop--this house consumes my mind
I walk down the hall, each note guiding me through the dim light
I stop at the mirror in the hall, nothing of me stares back
The melody pulls me forward, candlelight flickers ahead
I stand at the doorway, a shadow of a piano and man on the wall
At the keys a figure plays-----the stance, the hands, unmistakably mine
Frozen in the doorway, my eyes wide, my mind refusing what I see
A shape moves behind him, blade to the throat---he collapses on the keys
The attacker turns familiar face---My best friend, hand still gripping the knife

A force pulls me through the dark
Each step I take, I'm pulled in more
My eyes search every corner, every door
I walk alone,, my fate lies within these halls
Figures stir beyond my reach
Every hallway twists, every wall will teach
Each step closer, leaves the past behind
I can't stop--this house consumes my mind

My wife emerges from the far side of the room
Kisses my best friend, now that I met my doom
