MUSIC FOR SALE

Wiped the fog from my bedroom window.
Rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.
To my delight, saw a blanket of white.
But, Jack Frost kept me inside.
Where the air felt warm, like Ma’amaw’s hugs,
with a sweet and curious smell.
My nose would say, without delay,
“What is that sugary spell?”

With a rumbling in my tummy,
I knew what had to be done.
A quick mission to the kitchen,
with my camo PJ's on.

Cause….

It’s a Christmas Cookie Hunt
Come with me if you dare.
Caught their scent in the air,
so goodies beware.
It's a Christmas Cookie Hunt

I zipped down the stairs in a flash.
The landing was really quite stealth.
Took the view in, with a grin,
sprinkled gems of buttery wealth.

That part was easy for this scout.
Lookin’ back, it was kind of a blur.
Now between me and sweet victory,
lies a beast with thick golden fur.

But…

It’s a Christmas Cookie Hunt
Come with me if you dare.
Caught their scent in the air,
so goodies beware.
It's a Christmas Cookie Hunt

Tip-toed right past Bailey.
Her ears peaked in curiosity.
Inching my way closer,
ever so cautiously.

Ducked beneath the table,
next to my baby sister.
Reached up with no fear, only to hear,
“No cookie for breakfast, mister!”

Aww Mom, I was…

On a Christmas Cookie Hunt
Only one is all I’d want.
I’d caught their scent in the air,
plus I’m willin’ to share….

But, I walked away defeated.
Heard Dad say, “Come see me, son!
While the battle may have been lost,
the war can still be won.

Christmas time is for giving.
One day, my son, you’ll see.
So, if you want, I’ll teach you to hunt.”
Then, he split his cookie with me.

Oh, what a Christmas Cookie Hunt,
nearly ended in disaster!
With some pluck and a little luck,
Next year, I’ll be even faster.
