At the Chicago Center for Music Education (ChiME) we provide an exceptional music education to a diverse community as a path for social, emotional, and character development.

Over the years evidence has continually emerged illustrating the non-musical impact that occurs through the process of learning music. The process of music learning allows children to not only express themselves through an art form, but to acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

In 2014 we adapted our mission to reflect not only our dedication to providing children and families with an exceptional music education, but also on the development of “life” skills and character traits. It is our desire to create a community of individuals who value not only what they accomplish, but how they lead their daily lives.

The Chicago Center for Music Education serves approximately 250 students at its location in Chicago’s West Town community and over 2,000 in public and private schools.

More about the company
We provide an exceptional music education to a diverse community as a path for social, emotional and character development.
Since 1981, the Suzuki-Orff School of Music has helped thousands of children lead more effective lives through music education. In 2013 we began a process to assess our role within the community and our ability to meet the needs of the community. As a result of this process we developed plans to begin expanding our programming in order to improve our ability to provide meaningful and impactful programs to our community. In order to provide greater program diversity, we felt as though we needed a broader umbrella under which to operate, an umbrella where people will look to find a diversified menu of music programs for all ages. Thus, in July 2014 the Suzuki-Orff School of Music began doing business as the Chicago Center for Music Education.
