[Verse 1]
I never told you how much you meant to me
But you were always there to keep me company
Every step of the way you were always there
And the way I treated you just wasn’t fair

It’s been a long time coming and I’m only now just coming around
Wandering about, looking for something I never lost or found
The streets aren’t nice to those out of town
I learned it the hard way when I was beaten down

I don’t know much, but one thing is true
I should’ve been nicer to the beautiful you

[Verse 2]
You were wonderful before, I just couldn’t see it
I was blinded by the dreams that other people wanted
I left you for a minute which turned into years
Now your eyes are swollen from all of the tears

I was chasing something bigger, something that could change our lives
I wanted to be a bird but I never learned how to fly
I tried to… once or twice
But I spent more time staring at the skies

Looking down from above is a breathtaking view
If only I could’ve shown it to the beautiful you

[Bridge]
You deserved better, much more than you were given
If I said, “I love you” now, it would mean nothing
So much time has come and gone our memories have faded
Even now recalling names leave me devastated

[Verse 3]
I never told you how much you meant to me
But you were always there to keep me company
Every step of the way you were always there
And the way I treated you just wasn’t fair

You were wonderful before, I just couldn’t see it
I was blinded by the dreams that other people wanted
I left you for a minute which turned into years
Now your eyes are swollen from all of the tears

I spent my life trying to build something new
In the hopes it would reach to the beautiful you

[Outro]
To the beautiful you I neglected, forgive me
To the beautiful you who waited for me, I’m sorry
To the beautiful you I couldn’t see, forgive me
To the beautiful you, the younger me, I’m sorry

To the Beautiful You

Your friends don't seem to like me at all
(Or are they playing hard to get?)
Side glances judging all my flaws
(I'm having doubts inside my head)

The animosity, it shows
Should I stay or should I go?
I don't even know if it's worth the trouble
I don't want to make you choose
There's a lot for you to lose
As for me, I'm just another person on the street

It's been a while since we last talked
(They haven't read your messages)
Guess that's the sign for me to move on
(Looks like we're starting over again)

Candlelight is burning low
Should I stay or should I go?
I don't even know if it's worth the trouble
Take my leave being discreet
Hide away under the sheets
The next day, I'm just another person on the street

Maybe it's not for me
I'm not cut out for this scene
Even when it gets lonely
I've gotten used to being alone

Is this the way it's supposed to go?
(I don't know, I'm still learning the ropes)
One day it's fine, one day it's not
(I forgot what I was going to say)
How many times can I repeat
(Saying, “Hello”, saying, “Goodbye”)
Until it's not worth to try

Maybe it's not for me
I'm not cut out for this scene
Even when it gets lonely
I've gotten used to being alone

Is this the way it's supposed to go?
(I don't know, I'm still learning the ropes)

He goes left out the door every morning
Looking down on his phone while working
Hoping one of these days will be different
Someone waiting for him from a distance

He goes left out the door every evening
Take a bus to a home that’s empty
Lay in bed with his phone still looking
How can anyone love being lonely?

Isn’t being in love so much better?
Helping you up when you’re under the weather
Building a life that’s better together
It’s but a dream, just a dream left to ponder

She goes right out the door every morning
Looking down on her phone while walking
Ears shut to the words being spoken
Trying to get a little closer but failing

All the “suitors” come off disgusting
Not a single one seems interesting
Only invested in short-term plans
Why is commitment so hard to understand?

Isn’t being in love so much better?
Working towards something that truly matters
Building a life worthwhile together
It’s but a dream, just a dream left to ponder

If only there was someone like that
Someone like you, like me, like us
Maybe I’m looking too hard or not enough
Is wanting more than just a dream too much?

Isn’t being in love so much better?
Never need to look around for another
Nothing’s not too far away when it’s closer
It can be more than just a dream, I wonder

He Goes Left, She Goes Right

Nothing catches my eye for tomorrow
Close the blinds, turn the lights down low
Curl up inside my bed and stay in limbo
Is this what it's like to feel hollow?

It’s so empty, I’m falling further
Deeper into this endless space
Never-ending, wondering
If I’ll ever find a way out
Hoping I'll get saved somehow

It's so quiet, my ears are ringing
The piercing silence whispers
Something but I'm hard of hearing
Can't seem to make out any words
Nothing said was understood

I don't wanna bring you down or anyone else around
But I also don't wanna be alone
Am I only wasting time pretending everything’s alright?
I don’t know, but I’m still here alone

Nothing catches my eye for tomorrow
Close the blinds, turn the lights down low
Curl up inside my bed and stay in limbo
Is this what it's like to feel hollow?

It's so empty, I'm falling further
Deeper into this endless space
Never-ending, wondering
If I'll ever find a way out
Just have to push through somehow

But I also don't wanna be alone

Hollow

Everyone’s so far ahead while I’m left in the dust
Long gone are the days where it was just us
We knew that things would change
But I didn’t think it would be this much

Did I make the right choice?
Should I have just followed the crowd?
I don’t know where I’m going and the light is fading now
Maybe I can still make it, if I just keep pushing on
Seeing where I ended up, I guess I got it wrong

The places where we’d meet no longer stand
Some friends we used to know have kicked the can
I could say it was untimely, but then I’d just be lying
We were never close and I didn’t bother trying

Did I make the right choice?
Should I have helped when I had the chance?
On a second glance, they weren’t looking for it anyway
Maybe they’d still be around and we would’ve gotten along
Seeing where they ended up, I guess I got it wrong

But what would’ve changed if I could change it?
There’s no telling if our lives would’ve been different
No promises of good things happening
A wasted chance of getting a happy ending

Maybe I can still make it, if I just keep pushing on
Maybe they’d still be around and we would’ve gotten along
Maybe if I tried I would’ve gotten somewhere
Maybe I should die and start everything all over
Maybe that could help everyone to move on
Seeing where I ended up, I guess I got it wrong

Last but Not Least

Trees have lost their leaves
Rain has turned to snow
It’s too early for Spring
The skies are gray and cold

If you want, I can take you
Some place warm to stay
Safe and sound from the weather
Even if it’s just for a day

Take a seat at the table, dinner will be set
Thank the Lord for the food as we lower our heads
Have as much as you want, you’re our guest
Make your stomach full before bed

When you’re lost and cold with no place to go
Come to my doorstep ‘cause it’s everyone’s home

You can change out your clothes
Into something less worn with comfort
Make yourself at home
God knows how much you’ve suffered

Another sun has set, it’s time for rest
Get some sleep for tonight, my friend
Say your prayers, count your blessings, Amen
Have peace of mind with no worries before bed

When you’re lost and cold with no place to go
Come to my doorstep ‘cause it’s everyone’s home

You can go when you want
No one says that you can’t
There’s no need to repay
There’s no owing of debt

Live your life with new meaning
Make your choices with pride
Second guessing leads to regrets
When in doubt, roll with the tides

When you’re lost and cold with no place to go
Come to my doorstep ‘cause it’s everyone’s home

Everyone's Home

I swear I’ve seen it all before but I can’t remember when
Like re-runs of a show but it’s a little bit different
The characters are similar, the stories sound familiar
And when I think it’s over, the show starts again

Give me something new, something else to experience
Not something old that’s been done for the sake of convenience
Make me feel anything than what I’m feeling now
Anything at all to numb myself somehow

They claim that they’re original, their message short and simple
Yet there’s something subliminal behind those smiles and dimples
Nostalgia laced in phrases to get the reaction they want
Bringing people closer at the cost of breaking bonds

Give me something new, something else to experience
Not something old that’s been done for the sake of convenience
Make me feel anything than what I’m feeling now
Anything at all to numb myself somehow

Look at how they’re laughing; the joke was not the reason
Mocking situations, making light of circumstances
How can they sleep knowing what has happened?
I feel bad for those trapped in their cage
But they must be glad to perform on stage

Give me something new, something else to experience
Not something old that’s been done for the sake of convenience
Make me feel anything than what I’m feeling now
Anything at all to numb myself somehow

Something Old, Something New

It’s been fun while it lasted
I wouldn’t change anything that’s happened
I might forget some of these moments
But I’ll have you to retell me the experience
Add extra details wherever you can
Make it sound exciting back to where we began

Many faces have come and gone throughout my life
I know their names are scattered somewhere in my mind
You tell me there’s a difference but you all look the same
Everyone’s playing in the dark, too embarrassed and ashamed
But I’ll reach out to you whenever I can
And we can go back to where we began

Time flies when you’re not counting the minutes
I’ve lost track of what I’ve been doing the last few years
Not that I’ve been doing nothing memorable
But the days and nights intertwine and just become a blur

It’s been fun while it lasted
I wouldn’t change anything that’s happened
I might forget some of these moments
But I’ll have you to retell me the experience
Add extra details wherever you can
And we can go back to where we began

It may not make sense but I hope you’ll understand
Whenever we go back to where we began

About Me

Bio

Hello, weary traveler, my name is Brian Tarr and thank you for stumbling upon my profile. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was a child. Throughout my life it has given me the freedom to express myself creatively, serving as an outlet to transform feelings and experiences into something that can be shared with others.

From the first moment I heard "Bye Bye Bye" by NSYNC and "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5, to the likes of Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Prince, Hall and Oates, Journey, Tatsuro Yamashta and many others, I developed a deep sense of love and admiration for music and songwriting. Although I do not play any musical instruments, I come up with vocal melodies to help guide and complete a lyric. Other than that, words and story-telling are what i do best.

Some days I will wake up and suddenly have an idea or phrase come to mind that implores me to write it down before it fades away into a horrific place I'd like to call "Missed Opportunities". Then there are other days where... well, nothing comes to mind. So, in a sense, my way of writing is more spontaneous than methodical and structured.

I am grateful and thankful to you, whomever you may be, for taking the time to take a gander at my lyric(s) and if you deem them suitable for whatever use you may have for them.

CV/History

I'm an American Lyricist and have been writing lyrics since 2015. I mainly write pop, rock, acoustic, and ballad lyrics touching on themes such as nostalgia, melancholy, yearning, infatuation, and disillusionment. However, you are free to reinterpret/rearrange/flip-flop/mix-and-match my lyrics; I'm all for it!

If you are interested in what I have to offer and/or would like to collaborate, I look forward to our highly prosperous and auspicious journey together!
