We said goodbye in Paris,
But you broke my heart in Budapest
I turned, but you’d walked away,
Without a thought it seemed.
You didn’t stop, didn’t look back
Couldn’t be any clearer than a goodbye

You had been the making of me
I was right where I wanted to be
Even though I knew you would leave
I couldn’t help but believe
That you and I were meant to be
I loved you by the side of me

And I knew but didn’t want to believe
I knew but didn’t want to see
Even though it was plain to me
That we’d said goodbye for the last time
I had dreamt that I heard wedding bells
In my future, in our future
London, Paris, and Budapest
Taking you further away from me

The water on the ground glistens in the sun
Autumnal leaves tan and bronze upon the ground
Near your flat in a brick and grey northern port
I feel like a distant sailor in our days apart
We are walking hand in hand, I can see the joy in your face
I hold onto this moment, I’m close by your side

And I knew but didn’t want to believe
I knew but didn’t want to see.
Even though it was plain to me,
That we’d said goodbye for the last time
I had dreamt that I heard wedding bells
In my future, in our future
London, Paris, and Budapest
Taking you further away from me

But we’ll always have Paris
Always have Paris
Always have Paris
Always have Paris

‘Budapest’ or ‘Say goodbye for the last time’

I want to live in Setúbal
Got my heart set on Setúbal
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh

I’ve had enough of the wind and the rain
The grim faces around me again.
No one seems to smile around here
Seems there’s only the work and the grind.

Over there it’s a different story.
They teach the kids on the beach
Got the sun, the sand, the sea and everything
They say it’s not the Algarve or the Azores
The sea, it isn’t so warm
But I can feel the sun on my face
Good food, cheap beer
And you by my side

And that’s why.
Oh, that’s why
Let me tell you why
I’ll tell you why

I want to live in Setúbal
Got my heart set on Setúbal
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh

And I know, oh I know,
That they got the same things we got here
Worries about work and paying the bills.
It’s not sunny all year long,
And you don’t get that food every day.
But I can’t help chasing the dream,
Days in the sun, my kids on the beach,
You by my side, the sun on my face
With none of the problems I got around here.

Where no one seems to smile,
And there’s just the work and the grind.
I’ve had enough of the wind and the rain
The grim faces around me again.

And that’s why
Oh, that’s why
Let me tell you why
I’ll tell you why

I want to live in Setúbal
Got my heart set on Setúbal
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh

Over there it’s a different story.

But I can feel the sun on my face
Good food, cheap beer
And you by my side

I want to live in Setúbal
Got my heart set on Setúbal
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh
Wooh oh wooh oh oh oh oh

Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh
Wooh oh wooh oh oh oh oh

Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh
Woah oh woah oh oh oh oh

Setúbal

Sometimes it feels as if I’m trapped in amber
Every time that I come to this town
These small-town memories, my own tragedies
They just keep on weighing me down
In this old town now
Where the cobbles are broken
And there are dogs in the pubs
Where a beating took place down a side street
Blood on the floor, knuckles without skin
In this old town now
In this old town

Remember those halcyon days
Halfway to suburbia, all the way to nowhere
Somewhere between having nothing and just getting by
This was our home then, and it always will be
I kissed you outside the Dog and Gun,
For the first time, early Saturday morn
When small town legends are made
I snuck a kiss, got a warm embrace

Travelled around and came back to town
But I never really got out of this place
Left again and saw more of the world
But I never really shook of this place
People talked about getting out, they had things they could do
I had nowhere to go, and you were all that I could see
Shouldn’t really let it get me down.
Oh, I shouldn’t really let it get me down.

I remember every moment in your arms.
If I’d stayed, we’d be talking about the old times
As if they were the good times
I’m glad your second marriage is okay.
Me, I never really settled, stuck in my way
These times of change, they overwhelm me
I feel like I’m stuck in the past, a fossil in sandstone
A relic to be put on display.

And I never really talk about it
This feeling that I just can’t shake off
Things are as they are and as they always would be
Some people they got on out, never even looked back
Others they rose above it, didn’t let it drag them down
Or leant on a drink and let it be washed away
They say youth is wasted on the young
Well, I burned through It two times over
Seems I blew every chance that I had

I swear that if you look at the school photos
You could see who and what everyone would be
And in the park and the pubs
The winners and the losers would be plain for all to see.
But if I let it go, face down the blown chances
I’d break out of the amber
And set aside the things that I let pull me down

In this old town now
I’ll be who I want to be
I’ll stroll the cobble streets
Leave and come back as I please
With barely a care or a backward glance
I’ve been all that I could be
Truly been all that I could be
Shouldn’t have let it envelop me
No need to carry it with me
The best days are now ahead of me

In this old town now
In this old town
In this old town

About Me

Bio

A non-musician who wants to get his lyrics to someone who's got the sounds but needs the words. My music uploaded so far is rock and most of the material being worked on is also rock, but there will probably be some pop tunes in there too. While some lyrics are quite long, I expect to produce shorter lyrics also. I am happy to collaborate and produce lyrics to a requested theme.
