You’re a friend and a lover and a confidant
When I’m with you I got all I want and it’s true
I’ll never find another like you
You can lift my spirit when I see your eyes
Like the rainbow does when the bluebird flies
When I’m sick with fever or racked with pain
Your cool hand touched like a summer rain
You’re a very special lady and I love you so
Without you there beside me I wouldn’t know where to go
And it’s true
I’ll never love another but you
You stand out like a clearing in a forest of pine
And I thank my lucky stars that you’ll always be mine
When I hold you in my arms I feel so strong
From everywhere you could be this is where you belong
There’s a never ending thought of you running thru my head
That I can always turn to for some tender words you said
And it’s true
I’ll never lover another but you
I would swim a raging river or the deep blue sea
Climb the highest mountain suffer silently for you
Cause I never had another so true
I like to buy you pretty things that make you glad
Keep you out of situations that make you sad
I could never believe that a love so strong
Could keep on growing for so long but its true
I’ll never find another like you
Lying close beside you on a cold cold night
With the goose down keeping us warm and bright
As the years go by and the memories glow
Like a cozy fire in a midnight snow
If I had to do it over it would be the same
From the highest mountain I would call your name
Till you knew
There could never be another like you

Friend and Lover

There will be trouble for me I know when you’re gone
I tried hard to stop you but your leaving will darken the dawn
Patterns of darkness have already started to creep
Into my mind where the memories of you I still keep
I’m still here beside you but already you’re turning away
For morning comes quickly when leaving is starting the day
I remember last summer we walked thru the woods hand in hand
And you never said nothing to me that I could understand
I thought at the time that you spoke so mysteriously
But I always assumed that the words you were saying were meant just for me
It’s so hard for me now to know that you’re leaving at dawn
For the rest of my like I’ll be wondering which plane you’re on
If only running and hiding were not ways to live
But staying here loving me leaving is not much to give
At last now the sun’s finally coming up low in the sky
And the light thru the curtain is falling there close where you lie
Once more please hold me and tell me it’s all a bad dream
That nothing’s as sad as it seems
Even tho your still going I can’t help but knowing the pain
And I wish that you’d left me the evening before in the rain
There will be trouble for me I know when you’re gone

There Will Be Trouble

Don’t bet your bottom dollar when you’re down to your last dime
Don’t say you’ll be a minute when there isn’t any time
Don’t wonder when you’re happy when you are you’ll know for sure
Don’t realize when it’s too late to close and lock the door
Cause there’s no time for living like right now
For yesterday’s over and gone
And no matter what you say
Tomorrow’s so far away
We to the present belong
Don’t try to understand the things that the mystics leave alone
Don’t ever covet anything you can’t afford to own
Don’t ever take for granted all the things that others feel
Just try to be yourself instead of someone who ain’t real
Don’t compromise yourself until there’s nothing left to give
Don’t satisfy yourself with less than all you want to live
Don’t underestimate the power of avaricious greed
Remember that the mighty oak started with a seed
Don’t stand around complaining if you’re at all to blame
Just keep in mind that all mankind gets wet out in the rain
Don’t hesitate till it’s too late and you will have to lose
If you’re no fool just play it cool and think before you choose

Yesterday’s Over

Yesterday’s Over

Never mind me just ignore me
You do that pretty well from what I’ve seen
Just go softly when you leave me
So you don’t wake me up from this dream
I’m dreaming of believing that you always have been true
Instead of all the other things you say but never do
I dream about the fool I’ve been a fool too blind to see
That I’ve been giving love away and getting none for me
That I do all the hurting for both of us that’s true
While you’re out laughing having fun with somebody new
Why is it so easy asleep to see so clear
When wide awake I’m falling for another lonely year
Another year of living a nightmare in the day
Masochistic tendencies seem to light my way
Why else would I suffer so
It ain’t love that much I know
Wish you’d stay and wish you’d go
Treat me like a radio
Turn me on and off at will
Buy the food and pay the bill
Laugh as I crawl up the hill and still
I just don’t know
Should I stay or should I go
Even if you told me that you changed your ways for good
I wouldn’t believe a word you said, even if I could
And now I see that you have gone and left another blue
Not that it surprises me anything you do

Nevermind Me

Too many times I wondered out loud and too many times I cried
And now the situation just cannot be denied
I can tell by the look on their starving face their bellies ain’t been fed
Their brains are ripe for picking now for a piece of week old bread
We’re selling corn for ethanol for an all time record gain
People argue back and forth but they don’t feel no pain
Let them try for a while to make it by on a cup of rice for a day
Then perhaps they might think twice
Before they clamp down on the vice
And find out that the world’s not nice
When you cannot afford the price to pay
The haves are never hungry the have nots never full
And some say distribution is the key
But we don’t have to hunger much with supermarkets at our touch
And no time to be worried or to see
That well fed members of the press belabor long their helplessness
But they’re all taking more than they can give
So politicians get to air their views
Pontificate on the evening news
While millions never get to choose
Or have the chance to pay their dues to live
The wide world of hunger is brought to you on hi def color TV
Sponsored by some worried folks who wanted you to see
That greed and exploitation harbor seeds of discontent
And no amount of pious prayer or foreign aid sent everywhere
Will never make a dent
The world awaits a miracle expecting us to pay
While sacred cows walk down the street
With starving people at their feet
The rhythm method’s lost its beat
And there is not enough to eat today

Hunger Song

When we got started and passions hot flame
Set us in motion and you took my name
We both knew for certain we'd found our life's mate
But there's no guarantee from the finger of fate

But we're still going strong
The years have been kind
When I look in your eyes
Only one thought comes to mind
Of all the choices I made in my life
The best one is still when I made you my wife

Now don't get me wrong love, we've had our fair share
Of fighting and yelling and pulling our hair
Some big disagreements some heartaches and pain
But somehow the sun always followed the rain

Who can we count on when life's twists and turns
Leaves us with hurt feelings, bruises and burns
A partner, a lover, a very best friend
We'll be together right to the end

Still Going Strong

I got those blackout blues again
Can't remember what I said or where I've been
Just like someone took a great big knife
Cut a piece right out of my life
Don't know how I got in
I got those blackout blues again

I did the town last night
Now I'm hurtin in the light of day
I parked my car but how far
Is it out in front or two blocks away
Mixin up that double scotch and gin
I don't need nobody else to do me in

Now I got those blackout blues again
Can't remember what I said or where I've been
I got this funny feeling I could swear
There's a reason for this dried blood in my hair
Don't know how I got in
I got those blackout blues again

Having conversations at a party
Making plans for future kinds of fun
Never dreaming that I won't remember
A single word I said or what I done
Bouncing off the guard rail on the road
Won't believe it till the morning when I'm told

I see a lady lying beside me in the morning
Looks like someone that I'd never seen before
Can't remember where or when it was I found her
Don't know what we did or who unlocked the door
Doing all this drinking's not for me
I got no will can't stop with two or three

Now I got those blackout blues again
Can't remember what I said or where I've been...

About Me

Bio

Born in Flint, Michigan, Bob Golden is a seasoned songwriter, lyricist, and poet whose creative journey spans more than 45 years. With roots planted deeply in the rich soil of American folk, rock, and country music, Bob's work is a heartfelt tribute to the classic storytellers who shaped him—icons like Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Seger and many others.

A true craftsman of words and melody, Bob has written many original songs and poems that reflect the soul of everyday America—its hopes, heartbreaks, resilience, and quiet beauty. His performances at countless open mic nights have connected him with audiences who appreciate the sincerity and timelessness of his style.

In the late 90's, Bob compiled decades of his work into a book titled An American Stroll, a collection that captures the spirit of his lifelong creative exploration.

Bob now lives just outside Washington, D.C. with his wife, Minna. Their love story has been a personal muse—each year since 1978, Bob has written Minna an original anniversary poem, a tradition that continues to this day. He is a father to 3 amazing adult children and grandfather to 5 beautiful grandkids.
