"The Story of Lilith"

Down she fell
Condemned to hell,
Lilith, the woman
Who rejected the man.

But what is her story,
This defiant lady?

She was Adam’s first wife
In Eden, sharing a life,
She was charming and smart,
With a passionate, fiery heart.

Adam was made of earth,
And wanted her to give birth
To all his children, boys preferably,
Some girls, too, shy and pretty.

Lilith wanted to dance and sing,
It was not enough just to wear a ring,
She wanted to be free and wild,
And was not ready for a child.

Adam did not like this at all,
He wanted her to be a doll,
So he complained to God about it,
And said he could not permit
A woman like this to be his queen,
Someone who always made a scene.

And so it came to pass, that God
Listened and moved his lightning rod
To make Eve, a brand-new wife
Who could give Adam a better life.

And Lilith was banished,
But before she vanished,
She crept into the history
Of women without a story.

Today she is just a black Moon,
And perhaps the chat of an afternoon,
But she is still here
Without fear,
Telling her untold story
To all who want to be free.
