Footprints in the Snow

Artist: DarrickT
Key Signature: E flat major
Time Signature: 4/4
Artist's Description
This song was inspired by a photo of my grandfather’s footprints leading to my grandmother’s resting place. After she passed away, a part of him died with her. He missed her so much that even in the harsh and bitter cold, he would go to see and talk to her. He felt incomplete without her until the day he died, which he welcomed because he knew he would be with her again.

[Verse 1]
Standing on frozen hallowed ground, paying my respects to a fallen friend, all alone
Something caught my eye, a muddy path through an untouched blanket of white, leading to a snow-covered stone
Inscription read, Beloved Mother, Grandma, and Wife, I Will Miss You Forever, You are the Love of My Life

[Chorus]
Surely there were many who came to see her everyday
A path carved through icy ground, leading them her way
I couldn’t help but wonder, who she was, and by all of those she was loved, I wish I could know
And was it them, who left…footprints in the snow

[Verse 2]
A few weeks later I returned to that place
Days of unique flakes falling, certainly covered that pathway
To my surprise it had only deepened, to her still they came
Leaving behind brittle crystal flowers where she laid

Chorus]
Surely there were many who came to see her everyday
A path carved through icy ground, leading them her way
I couldn’t help but wonder, who she was, and by all of those she was loved, I wish I could know
And was it them, who left…footprints in the snow

[Bridge]
As I looked up, a gray-haired man passed me by, walked over to that grave, on one knee down he prayed
Sir, I don’t mean to interrupt, she must have been so loved, so many come this way

[Outro]
He said used to long ago, almost all have moved away
Now it is just me, she is the love of my life
I still come to talk to her every day
If you wish to know, those are my…footprints in the snow
