Poppy Fields and Mineral Mountains (Afghan ANZACS)

By Lach Pearce
Verse 1
Poppy fields and mineral mountains, An ancient land of rebels routing,
Bushmaster, IED's, a roadside blast, Tarin Kowt, mortars pound the pass,
Verse 2
Air support, a constant drone, Night time raids, a villagers home
Road to nowhere, dug in holes, Insurgency, now swapping roles.

Chorus 1
ANZAC Days come and go, What does it really mean?
A generation lost and gone, Soldiers torch reclaimed,
Lest we forget that we're still at war,
And many a young digger still bleeds.

Verse 3
Green on blue and the Taliban paid, Apathetic troops, drugged barely trained,
Blood spilt for a job left undone, Camps getting packed, leaving one by one,
Verse 4
Pakistan promises and hostages traded, While on TV peace is made,
Corrupt politicians and porus border, War ravaged land, and social disorder.

Ch 1 > Break
Chorus 2
ANZAC Day draws to a close, What has it really meant?
Sons and brothers lives, ruined and maimed,
Lest we forget that there's still a war,
And many a young mother still grieves.

Outro (spoken)
Poppy fields and mineral mountains, 20 thousand dead and counting.
