DISH OF THE DAY

Been eatin a dish quite a lot lately
a dish that I’ve come to hate
get it for breakfast an dinner
an even sometimes get it quite late

Getting quite sick of that dish now
eatin it day after day
quite frankly I’d rather go hungry
than to see it headin my way

And the dish? I hear you cry
What’s this dish? I hear you cry
well you might have had some yourself once
for the dish it is called humble pie!

Seem to have had it for weeks now
the damned stuff won’t go away
no matter how much I behave myself
there’s humble pie comin my way

Had me a word with the Good Lord
asked Him how do things look?
no reply from the Almighty
so I figure that He’s the Chief Cook

well you might have had some yourself once
for the dish it is called humble pie!

Headed out to my favourite bar
saw everybody I know
had me a few beers then got hungry
I knew just where I had to go

The waitress she smiled at the drive-thru
told her cheeseburger an fries
but when I opened the bag in my pick-up
it was more of that damned humble pie

Getting resigned to my fate just now
been eatin that dish quite a lot late
the only good thing I can tell you
is that it’s sure helpin me to lose weight

So pay good attention you folks out there
cos I don’t want it happ’nin to you
be careful an honest as you pass thru life
or that dish will be headin for you
