Let's let the New Year in!
By Sharon Trafali
VERSE 1.
I remember when I was a child; I helped my Mum and looked after my little brothers.
I wanted to go out to play but I could see that my Mum needed me to stay.
I read them bedtime stories every night and sang lullabys.
I got up out of bed, when they cried.
I tucked them up and kissed them goodnight.Yeah, thats right!.
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in; savour every moment of joy.
It's all spinning round in my head, through thick and thin.
Oh my.......Oh my!.......
Oh boy.....Oh boy.....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
VERSE 2.
We moved house and I changed school;everything was new.
I wore a uniform and a red tie.
I made new friends even though I was a little shy.
I took sandwiches for lunch but ate them for brunch.
Some teachers were weird and I couldn't figure out why?!
I was top in my English class, in music and art
And I was good at writing poems and drama and craft.
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in........
........
Oh my......Oh boy....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
VERSE 3.
I shone in learning languages, in singing and in law
And in dancing, I was always the first to get up on the dance-floor.
Yea, it's something I adore!
When I left school, I got a part-time job in a supermarket.
It wasn't what I wanted but it kept me out of debt and I was never out of pocket.
Then I got promotion to Staff Trainer, then Supervisor.
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in........
.......... ... .
Oh my....Oh boy.....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
VERSE4
I trained for 2 years and became a Manager.
I worked with the guys in the warehouse of a hypermarket as Buyer and Stock Controller.
I earned plenty of money and was on a roller-coaster!
The men were flirting but sometimes abusing,
were chauvenists and tried to prevent me from acheiving.
I learnt to be aggressive and self-assertive and reached my goals and so, it was 'no skin off my nose!'
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in
..................
Oh my....Oh boy.....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
VERSE 5.
Then I decided to travel the world before I got married and tied.
It was great at the time and my parents were full of pride.
I travelled all around Europe, Singapore and Malaysia.
I stayed in the jungle with Iban natives in Bornio; nothing was more crazier!
Then in Greece at last, I met my man and we lived happily.
I gave birth to 4 children and we were a family.
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in
................
Oh my!..........Oh boy.....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
VERSE 6.
We traveled to the US as diplomats.
My husband worked for the embassy and was a beaurocrat.
We were full of ambition and hubby completed his mission.
Then after 3 years we returned to Greece
but we'd still got lots to accomplish.
For a while we took things easy and built our apartments.
We'd saved-up our money and had plenty of cents.
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in...
................
Oh my....Oh boy.....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
VERSE 7.
Then many years later when the kids were all grown-up,
Hubby became ill and my life became stuck.
My Dad became sick and we got on a plane.
Then they both went to heaven at the same time and I thought I was going insane.
And now I'm all alone with my grown-up kids;
I'm managing OK and I'm trying my luck!
I'm making the most of each day and just cope.....and help out with my Grand-child and try not to mope.
CHORUS,
It's time to let the New Year come in.............................
Oh my....Oh boy...Oh boy!........
dreams do come true. What do you reckon? don't you?.
VERSE 8.
I think how lucky I am to be alive and count my blessings and take everything in my stride.
My Grand-daughter she's so beautiful and looks like hubby and has green eyes.
She's awesome and clever, wise and full of surprise.
Although I've had some lonely, sad times,
I'm never one to moan or whine.
Although my life was mostly up, then down,
I've learnt to always smile and never frown.
CHORUS.
It's time to let the New Year come in; savour every moment of joy.
It's all spinning round in my head, through thick and thin.
Oh my.......Oh my!.......
Oh boy.....Oh boy.....Oh boy!
Nevertheless, I believe that dreams do come true.
What do you reckon, don't you?
.............
Through troubled times, I still have wonderful dreams that do come true.
Just for ones sake and never, ever too late....they really do!.
