When I met you...life unsteady, sudden changes, feeling blue
Was called a name...put in corners, left to cry, alone, ashamed
You took my hand...out from the shadows, into the light, you helped me stand
As time went by...left my cocoon, spread my wings, and learned to fly
I needed you then more than I could know
Helped me learn how to fly so long ago
On delicate wings through life's storms
You dried the tears from my eyes
I feel your strength every time I see a butterfly
Time rolls by...6 years old, now I'm 60, in the blink of an eye
Time spent waning...took you for granted, amidst life's struggles, work, and playing
That you'd be there...to pick me up when I was down, the cross you bear
The cross I burn...when I fail to give the same love in return
I wish I'd been there for you as you've been there for me
Let too much time pass me by, now I'm starting to see
You deserved so much more
And there's no question why
I miss you most everytime I see a butterfly
Our time is near...to reminisce, those times in life, we hold so dear
Then say goodbye...try being strong, and hold your hand, try not to cry
But before you go...on wings to heaven, there's one thing that you should know
You're in my heart...you'll always be, you always were, right from the start
The boy inside remembers, the love and care you showed
