Smoke one with Willie
By James Torrey
Verse 1
I’ve been chasing’ down the backroads of this long and dusty life,
Trying’ to find a little peace beneath a big old’ western sky.
I’ve had my share of heartache, but I still hold my head up high,
Cause I want to smoke one with Willie before I die.
Chorus
Yeah, sit out on that tour bus, watch the Lone Star fade to dawn,
Talk about the songs he’s written and the ones that keep me strong.
Let that old guitar start hummin’, feel the world just roll on by,
Man, I want to smoke one with Willie before I die.
Verse 2
I ain’t asking’ for no fortune, I ain’t begging’ for no fame,
Just a moment with the legend who put fire in my veins.
We’d laugh about the hard times, maybe even shed a tear,
While the stories and the smoke rings hang gentle in the air.
Chorus
Yeah, sit out on that tour bus, watch the Lone Star fade to dawn,
Talk about the songs he’s written and the ones that keep me strong.
Let that old guitar start hummin’, feel the world just roll on by,
Man, I want to smoke one with Willie before I die.
Bridge
Maybe dreams don’t always happen, but this one’s worth a try,
Cause some things make a life complete, and this one’s mine.
Final Chorus
So if I make it to that moment, under that Texas sky,
I’ll raise a flame and tip my hat as the night goes drifting’ by.
And I’ll thank the Lord for living’ and the chance to sit nearby
Cause I want to smoke one with Willie before I die.
