Cheaper Overseas III

By Richard M Moss MD
I live in a small town,
In the Midwest, where I grew.
I went to school here, my brothers and I,
We had to work, this much we knew.

I worked in a factory, made a living,
One day we heard it was closing down,
No reason given, it was leaving town.
The Lords of Wall Street we did not please,
They’re moving away, it’s cheaper overseas.

My family worked here for generations,
My kids would work, just the same.
We’re proud of the company and always had been,
But short-term profits was the name of the game.

We heard that workers in other lands,
Did our jobs and worked for nothing.
Conditions were bad, they did not care,
They took it anyway, at least it was something.

I worked in a factory, made a living,
One day we heard it was closing down,
No reason given, it was leaving town.
The Lords of Wall Street we did not please,
They’re moving away, it’s cheaper overseas.

Do bankers understand the threat?
` We lost our jobs and left with debt.
Do the rich notice the working man’s cries?
We’re tired of hearing all the lies.

Who will stand for our way of life?
The press mocks the working class.
They call us garbage and trailer trash,
Strangers take our jobs while we crash.

I worked in a factory, made a living,
One day we heard it was closing down,
No reason given, it was leaving town.
The Lords of Wall Street we did not please,
They’re moving away, it’s cheaper overseas.

They call it the heartland for a reason,
But CEOs could care less.
Is the working-class out of season?
For politicians, it’s a game of chess.

Fentanyl is killing us off.
Big shots don’t mind, they just scoff.
While distant workers do our jobs,
The boss is busy playing golf.

Leaders once defended the country.
Now they don’t mind if we go hungry.
Do politicians understand our plight?
Who will fight to make things right?

I worked in a factory, made a living,
One day we heard it was closing down,
No reason given, it was leaving town.
The Lords of Wall Street we did not please,
They’re moving away, it’s cheaper overseas.
