Truth in the rearview

				Truth in the rearview
Tom Elliott
 Verse 1
I wore my smile like a Sunday suit,
kept my truth hidden in my boots,
She loved a man I tried to be,
but my vision in the mirror kept haunting me,
Late nights, whiskey and the radio shows,
Hiding the person I didn’t know.
 Verse 2
She’d talk of kids and a picket fence,
 the truth inside became intense,
I kissed her soft, but felt the pain,
living a lie in the pouring rain.
weight got heavy, the light grew thin,
till I finally broke and let him in.
 Chorus
I said goodbye with a tear and a prayer,
Left her standing in the midnight air,
Told her the truth I buried deep,
the kind that don’t let a grown man sleep.
It hurt like hell, but I found some grace,
In the arms of love, in a brand-new place,
I’m driving on, no need to hide,
There’s truth in the rearview, with peace inside.
Verse 3
He held my hand, now I feel I belong,
now the silence has a song .
I felt the pain fall off my chest,
those chains I’d worn, now laid to rest.
No more pretence, no more shame,
Just a man who finally can speak his name.
 Bridge
I ain’t proud of the hurt and pain,
But I’m now done living with that shame,
 She deserved to know,
the real me I had to show.
 Final Chorus
I said goodbye with a tear and a prayer,
Left her standing in the midnight air,
Told her the truth I buried deep,
The kind that don’t let a grown man sleep.
It hurt like hell, but I found some grace,
In the arms of love, in a brand-new place,
I’m driving on, no need to hide,
There’s truth in the rearview, and peace inside.
 Outro
Now I’m singing with no shame,
In a life that finally knows my name.
