Left to the Sharks

By Rocking Tom 64
Verse 1
I came home to my country a long time ago,
After years of studying and working abroad.
I considered myself as an expert and thought
I will now impress them with all that I know,
Was lucky and found a nice job in my field,
Ignored that I would need a very strong shield.
Pre-Chorus
What looked so attractive initially,
Quickly turned out to be a shark pool.
A basket of crabs, and progressively,
I think I became everybody’s fool.
Chorus
Before I knew it, I was hopelessly left to the sharks.
Most of them considered themselves as monarchs.
They put me aside on a dead end route,
Ruined my talents and rendered me mute.
They claimed that my output was much too low
To bring in enough money to finance their show.
Verse 2
Some were narcissists, some others carpetbaggers,
Some were true sadists, and some acted like tyrants.
They included me into a team of laggers,
Who were nipping in the bud all aspirants.
Then, they even cut my budget completely,
And they destroyed my self-confidence deeply.
Pre-Chorus
What looked so attractive initially,
Quickly turned out to be a shark pool.
A basket of crabs, and progressively,
I think I became everybody’s fool.
Chorus
Before I knew it, I was hopelessly left to the sharks.
Most of them considered themselves as monarchs.
They put me aside on a dead end route,
Reduced my talents and rendered me mute.
They claimed that my output was much too low
To bring in enough money to finance their show.
Verse 3
There was simply no choice, I decided to go,
After sacrificing twenty years of my life.
I didn’t anticipate many regrets and so
I resigned from the useless efforts to strive.
My boss organized a small party for me.
Upper sharks didn’t show up, unsurprisingly.
