Goodbye Seattle

Artist: Oli Vera
Artist's Description
The last time I was in Seattle it brought back memories of a time long ago, in particular one trip with a love of mine, my "little mermaid." We once visited there yearly but this last time, the memories were too much and I swore I'd never go back. This was the song I wrote about it.

Goodbye Seattle

By Oli Vera
Goodbye Seattle,
This is the last time
I’ve wandered your streets wanting to hide.
Goodbye Seattle
Keep your sunsets and pain,
green neighborhoods and blue water-ways.
Your fancy art deco and September rain
Isn’t the memory I want to save.

It’s sunny Seattle,
The sun’s out today.
But not as it was,
There’s too much rain in my eyes.
The storms in my heart,
Gray out the blue skies.
I remember her running
Back and forth on this deck
Waiting for the boat to arrive.

It was years ago, so much time has gone by
Goodbye Seattle I can’t bear to think twice.
I once thought you were, the answer to life,
But now I can’t see a thing besides her smile.
You’re not what you seem to be, not who you use to be,
This city of wandering souls.
You’re lonely,
You’re sad, in segregated drag,
A city of pretense I once held so close.

Goodbye Seattle,
You’re worn out and tired.
You need an awakening of youth in these streets.
Goodbye Seattle,
Don’t pray for good weather but for a spiritual spring.
When the rain stops to fall, when the clouds roll away,
Think of me then, bring her back again.
My mermaid.

Maybe then,
I’ll smile and say hello.
