Plight of the Common Folk

This song was inspired after I visited with several of my elderly friends as they talked about how the world has changed so much in the past few years and their discomfort in it currently. It is meant to be thought provoking and somber but trying not to be too sad or depressing.

Plight of the Common Folk

By Kaye Goodyear
Chorus
What is this place.
I don’t recognize it anymore.
What is this place.
What use to cost a dollar now cost four.

Verse 1
The homeless number seems to grow each day.
Others of us work hard for very little pay.
We watch as the already wealthy grow more rich.
While the common folk seem to be stuck in a ditch.

Chorus

Verse 2
We’ve been searching the horizon for some light,
But the darker it gets, the harder we fight.
If there’s a way back, Lord, show us a sign,
Help us find the strength to know we’ll be fine.

Chorus
