Colors of Sunset
By Sean H. Scully
One day I was striding down on sunset,
One lovely Sunday morning’s bet,
Hearing the birds lend their tunes to the air
Smelling flowers, sweet and fair,
May’s affair
I glimpsed your shadow,
Saw grace in your sway
Spreading colors in a world draped in gray
You painted the pavement, each step a new hue,
I knew right then what I had to pursue
“I wanna win your heart,”
I whispered to the breeze,
With every step, I felt the squeeze
Your eyes caught the sunlight
Spun it into gold
In this painted moment,
bold and cold.
We walked together,
As the world spun around
In our little bubble,
No feet on the ground
Your laughter told stories,
Colored outside the lines
Under the the banner of swaying pines
With every heartbeat,
I drafted a dream
On the canvas of Sunset,
We were the theme,
From whispers to wishes,
In hue so bright
I promised to win your heart by night
Now every Sunday, on that golden street,
I walked where our colors promised to meet
Still hearing those birds,
Still smelling the blossoms
Hope swirls in May’s warm,
Inviting plumes
One day was all it took to see,
The truest colors you brought out in me,
Under the vast, embracing sky
On Sunset where dreams don’t care to die
