Lookin for a Medal
By Lisa Leonard
You aint no army, airforce, navy or marine but you lookin for a medal
The only person you ever fought for, died for, and saved for is you
But still you lookin for a medal
Would you like bronze, silver or gold
When you are a coward, more craven than bold
Which hue do you think will buy back your soul
Please tell me which you think that you earned
You aint no fireman, police or priest, but you lookin for a medal
The only person you ever lived for, cried for, and kept for is you
But you are still lookin for a medal
Around the neck, on the chest, or in pocket of your vest
How do you want the world to see your tricky, dickey medal
How can I stop your insanity devoid of any courage or humanity
How can I stop your desire to reframe the your life
As the end nears for you in horror, without combat but strife
You aint no father, husband, friend or foe but you still wait for a medal
When you are in the ground, with no mourners around
I will whisper within a shout, that there is no doubt
You will never from me receive through a posthumous deed
A unjustified, unverified, fantasized, medal
