This week’s featured artist:

Justine Perry

A brilliant young lyricist who has already had her lyrics commissioned and licensed at Songbay

“I grew up in Devon (UK.) I started writing lyrics at a young age. At eighteen, I studied music theory. Although I often write full songs, lyric writing remains my passion. I enjoy working in collaboration.
I moved to Falmouth (Cornwall) in 2010 to study music composition at university. I graduated in July 2013 and I currently live in Brighton.

I specialise in lyric writing. My final year at university was devoted to studying, developing and enhancing this craft. I am also passionate about teaching. I run JPML Tutoring, delivering a variety of music and creative writing courses locally and online, using Skype.

An example from one of her powerful lyrics-‘Bruises’ :

“Verse One
The air’s feeling harsh on my skin, I’m exposed
Your love was my home and I felt safe enclosed
Now you’re gone

Bridge
You ripped through my soul
Like a cold blade on my skin
You blew out of proportion
The most innocent of sins

Keep watching from your window
As I battle through this life
I have a lot to show you
So go switch on all the lights

Chorus
I’ll show you all my bruises
‘Cause I know they will fade
Your precious brittle glory
Won’t come around again
I don’t know life without you
I’m scared but not afraid
I’ll never hide my bruises
‘Cause I know they will fade

Verse Two
We built up from scratch my whole life on our own
That’s years in the making, you’ve torn and overthrown
I will cope

Repeat Bridge

Repeat Chorus

Climax
You love to see me wounded but you’ll hate it when I run
So even as I’m limping, the game’s already won
I’ll never hide my bruises
The game’s already won

Repeat Chorus

Ending
I’ll never hide my bruises
‘Cause I know they will fade” Justine Perry
