How do I collaborate with other Songwriters at Songbay?
For those asking the question, – how do I collaborate with other songwriters at Songbay?, we introduce:
The Easy NEW Way to Collaborate with Songwriters and Lyricists Online:
Songbay has always been a place for collaboration, helping lyricists and songwriters connect. You can sell or license your songs and/or lyrics by creating a Songbay profile to showcase your work.
For lyricists and composers wanting to be proactive in finding co-writers, we launched the Collaboration Zone. This is a great way to collaborate online and reach musicians and lyricists throughout the world, people you otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to meet.
We recently announced an update to the Collaboration Zone, making it even more interactive. The original feature is still available and might be the right option for you. It works as follows:
Collaboration Instructions
Click on the collaboration tab in your user dashboard. Here, you can browse a list of songwriters looking for lyricists and vice versa. When you click on a name, you can send a message and initiate conversation. Check your messages at any time by clicking on the envelope icon at the very top of the page when you log in to Songbay.
It’s important to note that before you can use this feature, you need to activate it in your settings.
To sign up for the Collaboration Zone, click on the account tab in your user dashboard. Scroll to the bottom of the essential info section, tick the box next to the collaboration option, and press update.
To see a list of the latest songwriting collaboration offers, click on the ‘Latest Work Offers’ button. If something takes your interest, you can reply using the links provided:
You can find someone to collaborate on one of your songs or lyrics by choosing ‘Find Someone To Work On My Song’
This is an easy way to connect with fellow writers looking to collaborate.
From here you can select one of your Songbay uploads to display to other users. You can give details of your collaboration requirements.
Some writers prefer to work without charging upfront fees, suggesting a share of royalties, others prefer to receive an initial payment for their work. One thing to bear in mind here is the amount of investment by many composers and producers in their equipment, added to their time spent writing, arranging and producing music for a lyric. Creative teams of musicians, studio engineers, producers and fully equipped studios are expensive, meaning composers may often ask for an upfront fee to cover these costs.
Whenever someone replies to your work offer, you will receive a message in your dashboard (look out for the red indicator in the message box at the top of your dashboard).
You can also see a list of general requests from buyers at Songbay by clicking on the handshake icon.
If you click on the play icon or the pen and paper icon, you can read the information provided by the buyer. If the project interests you, contact the buyer by clicking on their name. Its always advisable to tell them what you can offer, pointing them towards your Songbay artist page. This displays all your uploads, resume, bio history, etc.
Lastly, it’s a good idea to always provide the best examples of your work because you could be competing with other writers, so remember to sell yourself!
We hope you find the Collaboration Zone useful.
We’re always interested in featuring artists on our blog, especially those that have created songs using our Collaboration Zone. If you would like to tell us about your exciting collaborations, please contact us!
