With sweet surrender I gave you my soul
With just one touch my heart you stole
Swept away let down my guard
Like a bird of prey with no regard
You raised me up then let me down
Got my head all turned around

Somewhere along the way
Words unspoken became cliche
Life with you was just a game
No one but myself to blame
Lies denied only to pretend
Told myself it's not the end

CHORUS
Living in the space between
The quiet places never seen
Where hearts once full of grace
Fade away without a trace

With every breath your voice I'd hear
You'd hold me close then disappear
My soul it knows how endings go
Played the fool the last to know
With every word your eyes said more
Of what I didn't hear before

CHORUS

THE SPACE BETWEEN

For all the souls lost in the street
Feelings of hope desperate to meet
Give us your tired and give us your poor
Come in from the cold the story is told
A journey of faith but for lives left stranded
In search of what we take for granted
Tomorrow holds no promising sign
Keeping watch for a friend of mine

Many are old many more are so young
Call out the names who'll next be shun
In the dark of night with no place to sleep
With tears in their eyes they softly weep
Lost in translation a home to belong
Suffer in silence when all hope is gone
People who know always looking away
Afraid of the truth have nothing to say

CHORUS
Talking heads cloaked in commentary
It's all become so ordinary
Open your eyes and you will see
You're standing here along side of me
Open your heart and you will hear
The haunting cries of living lies

In darkened doorways night time looms
Surviving the street, a home without rooms
Mothers and daughters, fathers and sons
What will become of the lonely ones
All they need is the touch of a hand
To let them know you understand
Silence of promise and shattered lives
Stand together holding truth to the lies

Broken visions searching through the mist
Forgotten people never really exist
They are only seen through denying eyes
Virgins to the flame watch their own demise
The tides of change always seem the same
Forsake the masses it's a tired game
Down here in the dark is all we see
A reflection of you in the image of me

CHORUS

LIVING LIES

A numbers game divide and conquer
Mother Nature they try to blame her
Fire and wind and waters rising
No time left for compromising

Children afraid to go to school
Defy the odds seems all to cruel
Cries for change are kept at bay
When will it end if not today

CHORUS
Hope springs eternal
Or so they say
Longing for the promise
Of a better day

Politicians words shrouded in myth
Ever quick to plead the fifth
Racial injustice, privilege and freedom
Fueled by greed designed to mislead them

Others so desperate to cross a river
A promise of hope, stand and deliver
Freedom from anguish and persecution
Replaced by fears of separation

REPEAT CHORUS

Too many souls lost and forgotten
Shackled by the pain of truths misspoken
Living each day in shades of blue
Holding out hope for all that is true

Promises made, promised broken
Words of wisdom left unspoken
Faded memories of how it used to be
If along the way we can't break free

REPEAT CHORUS

Promise of a Better Day

About Me

Bio

Aspiring lyricist. Seeking creative compositions to compliment my lyrics/poems. For me, music is a deeply engaging experience finding joy in the personal and shared experience of sound. A good piece of music can evoke images, memories and emotions like nothing else.

CV/History

While my background may not include musical experiences, I do consider myself a creative. I have enjoyed and excelled as a professional landscape designer, having won several awards for my designs. After retiring my business my attention turned to teaching, in my field, at a vocational high school. However, my love of writing has always been a secondary love. I do tend to lean into social critiques, including political issues, inequalities and injustices.
