I used to chase the midnight lights,

Thought I was free but lost inside,

Every bottle, every night,

Just a way to hide the pain.

Mama cried and Daddy prayed,

But I just threw those years away,

Now I see the price I paid,

For walking my own way.

Now I’m standing in the story,

That grace has written over me,

All the wrong turns, all the heartache,

Led me back to what’s redeeming.

I see my mama’s fading smile,

And my daddy’s trembling hands,

And I just pray they see in me

The man they prayed I’d be.I missed so many Sunday mornings,

Chose the world and lost the truth,

But now I’m back inside those pews,

With my babies next to me.

I see the years upon their faces,

And I wish that time could slow,

To thank them for their endless graces,

And the seeds they chose to sow.

They never gave up on their boy,

Even when I lost my way.If this is what redemption looks like,

It’s not perfect, but it’s real,

It’s tears and faith and second chances,

And a heart that’s learning still.

And when the Lord calls them to glory,

I’ll hold their legacy,

And tell my boys of grace and mercy,

And who their grand folks taught me to be.
