"Chiron"

With the heart of gods, but feet of a horse,
And a face that was ugly and coarse,
Chiron was born, and then banished,
He was not even kissed or missed.

He felt betrayed, but let it pass,
He was the best in his class,
He was praised for his knowledge,
But only a few could acknowledge
How exceptional he was
Despite all his physical flaws.

But as fate had it, he was shot,
And his body began to rot,
If he could, he would heal himself,
But he couldn’t restore his health.
You see, not even a death portal
Could really help an immortal.

Can you imagine all the pain
That he had to bear with no gain?

Finally, he went to the gods and said,
“Please free me from this dread!”
I would pay for someone else’s sin
If it means freedom from this skin!”

So the gods agreed to let him walk
In the shoes of someone chained to a rock,
Someone who had stolen the fire
From the gods, just to inspire
Mortal men to make new things
Like fast trains and airplane wings.

Can you imagine all the pain
That Chiron felt under that rain,
As he was chained to that cold rock
And he could barely even talk?

But there he was, calm and content,
Because his life and his pain meant
That someone somewhere could be loved and free,
On top of a mountain or under a tree.
