"Carl the Chameleon"

Carl the chameleon
Was an Aristotelian,
He loved natural law,
And insects, mostly raw.

But he was indecisive,
And his views were divisive,
He could not choose
Between greens and blues.

And he firmly believed
That he could be deceived
By the sun and the rainbow
All those colors, who could know
What was right, what was wrong
Was life short, or was it long?

Carl was suspicious and slow,
And he sometimes did not know
Which foot to put forward
The left one or the right?
Which eye to turn around
Right or left or a compound?
And he had always flung
His long, long tongue
In the air
And didn’t care
What he would catch
Locusts or crickets in a batch.
And he could not decide
To sleep on which side.

Life involved so many decisions,
And Carl could have many visions,
But he had chosen to stay
In doubt, every night and day.

Couldn’t he have had a better life?
A few friends, maybe a wife?
Enjoying rainbows and the sun,
If only he had begun
To make decisions, no matter what,
And act on them, without further thought.

It doesn’t matter if we’re mistaken,
Love has to be given and taken.
We should give it our best shot,
And try not to get caught
In too much thinking,
Seeing the world sinking,
Just because we doubt…
That’s not what life is about.

It doesn’t matter if we’re mistaken,
Love has to be given and taken.
We should give it our best shot,
And try not to get caught
In too much thinking,
Seeing the world sinking,
Just because we doubt…
That’s not what life is about.
