"Billy the Bug"

Billy the bug,
Living on a rug,
Would sometimes stink,
But could always think.

He had perceptions,
And lots of questions,
Why he had six legs,
Why the bugs laid eggs,
Why the sky was blue,
What was false, what was true?

Billy the bug,
Living on a rug,

Then one morning came
A grand lady, a dame,
She flew over his rug,
So stunning, a ladybug.

“Greetings, my lady,
How may I serve thee?”
Billy was so excited,
And genuinely delighted.

“Nothing you can do for me,
Are you a louse or a flea?”
She was arrogant and crude,
Such an attitude, so rude!

Billy lost hope and said,
“I’m a stink bug, born and bred.
And I already know
That you need to show
You are better than me,
As if you’re a bee.
But let’s face it, friend,
And let this quarrel end:
We’re both just bugs
In gardens or on rugs,
And life is too short
To attempt to court
Someone who would think
All I do is stink,
So enjoy your day,
And clear my way!”

The ladybug flew away
And Billy began to pray:
“Dear God, please send me
A kind and intelligent lady.
Someone I can love and adore,
Someone who is not a bore,
I already know that I stink,
But I also know that I can think,
And I know l will find her,
I know that she is out there,
I certainly hope so,
Even if the odds are low.”
