Memories of You

Artist: Donald Davis
Key Signature:
Time Signature: 4/4
Artist's Description
This song describes the heartbreaking and life altering impact of Alzheimer's disease on a family. A raw and personal experience from my own family's struggle and experience with this disease. Guilt, deep sorrow, anger, love and sacrifice are part of the journey. Alzheimer's steals so much from the one with this disease and the rest of the family. The loss felt by the spouse without the disease is gut-wrenching. I wrote this song to honor families and those who suffer with the disease.

In the early morning hours as the day starts anew

I see you searching cause you are missing you

whispers in the darkness pull you further offshore

With every day that passes, you lose a little more.

Your life now a puzzle, pieces scattered on the floor

Desperately you try to put together who you were before

With the laughter that we shared, now just echoes in the halls,

Your eyes see only strangers, I'm just a shadow on the wall

Chorus:

I’m holding on to memories, gets me through the night,

You were my forever, now lost in plain sight

I won't abandon you please don't fret

I'm so thankful you can't miss what you forget

I catch a glimpse now and then, of the man I knew

I'm hoping there are moments you remember me too

How I wish to God we could go back in time

Watching you forget me, it's breaking this heart of mine

So I’ll gather all my courage, get's harder every day,

To move you to a place, where alone you must stay

Forgive me dear one for my selfish reprieve

I'm haunted, do you know, do you cry, do you grieve?

Chorus:

I’m holding on to memories, gets me through the night,

You were my forever, now lost in plain sight

I won't abandon you please don't fret

I'm so thankful you can't miss what you forget

Each night I whisper to our God this one simple plea

For the love we had together, for the man he used to be

Tomorrow let him see me even if just a moment or two

No longer that stranger but the woman he loves too

Chorus:

I’m holding on to memories, gets me through the night,

You were my forever, now lost in plain sight

I won't abandon you please don't fret

I'm so thankful you can't miss what you forget
