Verse 1: In the Wild]
Beneath the maples, river bends, where springtime’s breezes sweep, A thousand emerald coils arise, while forest secrets sleep. By stream and shadow, damp and cool, the ostrich ferns unfold, With U-shaped grooves and tender stems, their stories yet untold.
[Verse 2: The Harvest]
With basket swung and sharp-edged blade, I wander through the dew, I spot those bright green fiddle scrolls and cut a modest few. I leave the rest to rise and grow, respecting nature’s plan, For every frond that’s spared today will feed the fern again.
[Chorus: The Kitchen]
So rinse away the earth and husk, in water cold and clear, A boil in salted bubbling pot, the ritual of the year. Ten minutes more, the kitchen steams, aroma fills the air, With butter, garlic, lemon zest, there’s springtime on the fare.
[Verse 3: The Table]
The salmon’s pink, the spuds are new, the fiddleheads beside, Their grassy taste, a forest gift, with every bite supplied. We pour the wine, a Tidal Bay; the cider’s crisp and cold, We raise a glass to woods and friends and stories yet untold.
[Chorus: The Feast]
Oh, buttered greens and ocean fish, the flavors of the coast, With laughter round the table here, we share what we love most. The fiddle’s tune, the fiddlehead, both make our spirits sing, For every spring in Eastern lands, they bring us hope and spring!
[Verse 4: Warnings and Wisdom]
We never eat them raw or rushed, for caution keeps us well, A lesson learned from ages past that every cook will tell. With steaming pots and careful hands, we treat them right, you see— For every feast and fiddlehead, there’s wisdom in our glee.
[Chorus: East Coast Toast]
A toast to rivers, woods, and fields, to every springtime friend, To baskets brimming, tables set, and meals that never end. With wine that sparkles, laughter bright, and music in the air, We honor East Coast living—simple joys and love we share!
[Outro]
So when the rivers overflow and April’s chills have fled, Remember where the fiddle plays, you’ll find the fiddlehead. With grateful hearts and glasses raised, we celebrate the land— The greenest meal, the merriest tune, and friends who understand!
