I was dust on a backroad, chasin' the wind,
A heart full of nothin’, too stubborn to bend.
Then you rolled in soft, like a whisperin’ storm,
Woke up my soul, made this cold world warm.
You’re the calm in the chaos, the peace I can’t explain,
Every drop of you heals me, washes out the pain.
That’s why you’re the rain, fallin’ on my dry days,
Soakin’ through my heartache, in a million ways.
You’re the thunder, the lightning, the sound I can’t ignore,
Drownin’ all my lonely, makin’ me want more.
Oh, darlin’, you’re the reason my heart’s alive again,
That’s why you’re the rain.
Every scar I was carryin’, you kissed ‘em away,
Turned my gravel to rivers, my night into day.
You’re the rhythm I hear in the pourin’ downpour,
A love so steady, I ain’t searchin’ no more.
You’re the spark in the silence, the flood I can’t contain,
Every part of me’s callin’ out your name.
Like a field in the summer, I was waitin’ for you,
Parched and prayin’ for somethin’ true.
Now you’re here, and I’m growin’, I’m green and I’m new,
Every drop of your love pulls me through.
Yeah, you’re my sweet redemption, my soft refrain,
Forever and always, you’ll be my rain.
That’s why you’re the rain.
