I sweep around the old man in the doorway
and push a cigarette behind his ear
some body somewhere must be missing this old guy
but the city streets they help you to disappear

white lights hang behind tall smoking chimney tops
hillsides are clinging to the snow the sun forgot
and the wispy clouds are rising off the river
naked trees lined along the streets like soldiers, shiver

these cold winter winds they burn my face
hard city streets can be a lonely place
a hundred million eyes go passing by
and every single one goes home to cry

every body's living in the sky
every body's living in the sky

the old green tower clock is chiming seven bells
and shadows turn into the people night time hid
the number sixty seven slowly trundles up the hill
rain running down the valley, swallowed by the grids

these cold winter winds they burn my face
hard city streets can be a lonely place
a hundred million eyes go passing by
and every single one goes home to cry

every body's living in the sky

tower blocks are everywhere you look these days
washing lines and bicycles tied up to walls
women gossip telling tales of what they saw
and this is rejuvenation a better life after the war
