LYRIC FOR SALE

By Rumfish

The illusion of control at the inception
Cast in your role to extend the deception
Propaganda peddled crowds cheering
False idol we should have been fearing
Contemptuous elites devalued and disdained
Fictitious menace arraigned and contained
Opinion masqueraded as virtual fact
Logical thought under withering attack
Mindless slogans motivated the base
Adversaries ruined and some erased
Part of the problem and the solution
Unable to flourish without your contribution

Perfecting the art of prayerful supplication
Injecting the junkie a hit of validation
You got your head in the sand
You got your head in the sand

Lurking shadows erected their tower
Influence wielded to bolster their power
Loyalty displayed confirmed your status
Position assured in the high king’s palace
Avoiding and suppressing any blame
Usurping credit to bask in the fame
Complicit in acting out the charade
No remorse to how we were betrayed
Built on reinforcement and repetition
Pummelled the opposition into submission
Claiming to deaden the pain of the masses
Accessories in turning the embers to ashes

Perfecting the art of prayerful supplication
Injecting the junkie a hit of validation
You got your head in the sand
You got your head in the sand

Using power and privilege you’re playing the game
Sycophantic devotees who show no shame
Control required to create the illusion
Rewarding the deception with more delusion
Responding to the raucous minority
Ensuring your position was the priority
Substance lacking it’s all about perception
As the host gives nourishment and protection
Cronies and acolytes facilitate the ruse
Ethics divested to help tighten the screws
Like carnival spruikers touting and flouting
Stick to the script no room for doubting

Perfecting the art of prayerful supplication
Injecting the junkie a hit of validation
You got your head in the sand
You got your head in the sand

The unchallenged emperor is always naked
He isn’t a deity he’s not even sacred
Showing concern for the privileged few
Ignoring the cries of those in the queue
Neglecting the innocent to protect the guilty
Preserving the lifestyle of the rich and filthy
Grifting and conning and pursuing profits
Trampling the innocent to line your pockets
Principle diminished veracity distorted
Pleading for justice our cries are thwarted
Despite all evidence the faith was kept
Blind leading the blind utterly inept

Perfecting the art of prayerful supplication
Injecting the junkie a hit of validation
You got your head in the sand
You got your head in the sand

History repeats again and again
You and your ilk continue our pain
Propagating a short sighted vision
To sow discord and create division
Forever guided by selfish control
Impotent to heal or even console
Inhaling oxygen and exhaling lies
Hypocrisy revealed to hasten your demise
The stench will remain long after you’ve faded
Legacy compromised and totally degraded
Ignoring and dismissing the inconvenient truth
Leaving the residue for tomorrows youth

Perfecting the art of prayerful supplication
Injecting the junkie a hit of validation
You got your head in the sand
You got your head in the sand

Perfecting the art of prayerful supplication
Injecting the junkie a hit of validation
You got your head in the sand
You got your head in the sand
