A loss so sudden it halts all growth,
news so swift it chokes off all air.
Stay on the periphery & gaze away if you must,
those feelings may otherwise well.

So we wait & wait without really knowing.

Not much joy in the usual day,
the familiar look sideways beyond.
Never before felt so outside of it all,
as we beg for our champion to show.

Still waiting & waiting,
please walk through the door.

for him.

Growing older but aware of the real,
yet a man passes by and we turn.
A second look shows of course it's not him,
that drama played out long ago.

So we wait & wait without really knowing.

Is there anything sadder than a heartbeat not healed,
a heart still waiting to see,
Wasting time & youth & self awareness within,
deeply scarred but faking it well.
