LYRIC FOR SALE

I must have missed
the horns
herald my arrival.
The war is over.
There are no survivors.
By chance
I made it to the gate.
With no food and only
what water I can carry.
Forget the silver.
Leave the gold behind.
They prove to be dead weight.
Too many miles to go.
Too many souls to bury.

I walked out
into the wilderness
for the first time without fear.
I knew my body
would not get me far
but man, my head was clear.
I know it's a long shot.
It seems so far away.
That I might be able
to get alright today.

I could not go home.
The things I've seen.
The things I've done.
I can hear the thunder.
The rain is falling horizontally.
Washing me away.
Returning me to the sea.

I saw the devil
the same time he saw me.
We were treading water
far out in the deep blue sea.
They will say the struggle
ended that night
but no one won.
It was ended though
by a man
with one bullet in his gun.
