Binding the past
By Nathan Gogin
I have to move on, I can't stay like this,
But I can not just dismiss,
The things of my past,
But I refuse to let them last,
When I look in the mirror I used to see,
A great big monster staring back at me,
Now the only monster is in my head,
But it's about time I put it to bed,
A brief look to the past,
And I can contrast,
The old and new me,
I refuse to be beaten by the things of my history,
But the way I move on is no longer a mystery,
So I’m breaking the mirror, I’m clearing the glass,
No longer a prisoner to the things of my past.
Yeah, the battle was quiet, but the victory is loud,
I look at the shadow I left in the crowd.
The monster is sleeping, the mystery is gone,
Out of the history, into a new dawn.
I suffered in silence for far to long,
I am now choosing to be strong,
So it's goodbye to my past,
I knew you wouldn't last,
But for a very long time I thought I might drown,
I no longer lock myself away whilst having a meltdown,
The voices are still here,
But they are no longer as clear,
As they once were,
And my head is no longer a blur,
So to hell with the voices,
I've made my own choices,
To no longer remain in your trap,
And these scars on my arm, I've now turned into a map,
So I’m breaking the mirror, I’m clearing the glass,
No longer a prisoner to the things of my past.
Yeah, the battle was quiet, but the victory is loud,
I look at the shadow I left in the crowd.
The monster is sleeping, the mystery is gone,
Out of the history, into a new dawn.
I've now settled down,
No more hospital gown,
This is for my survival,
Your no longer my rival,
Here is to peace with myself,
My past is now bound and place on a shelf.
Rest In Hell.
Voices I'm now choosing to rebel.
