The Moment My Heart Died

Artist: Reverie Lupin
Artist's Description
[Story]
On her wedding day during the final vows, a bride comes to the horrible realisation her husband-to-be is in love with another. Rather than face trials and heartache in the future, she makes the difficult decision of stepping aside to give her fiancé the freedom to be with his true love, even though it breaks her heart.

[Origin]
In the movie this was inspired by, the stepsister - Anastasia - was disguised as Cinderella and was about to marry the Prince. However, she makes a last-minute decision to stand aside after realising she wants to find her own true love and he would never really love the real her. My story is similar, save for the fact Anastasia wanted to find her own happiness, while my character - The Bride - had chosen to sacrifice her happiness.

[Inspirations]
Loosely inspired by the wedding scene from the 2007 Disney film Cinderella III: A Twist In Time

The Moment My Heart Died

By Reverie Lupin
[Verse One]
I was standing at the altar in my ivory-white dress
I don't think I had ever felt so blessed
My heart was bursting with light
All of my hopes were shining bright

It was your turn to promise eternal devotion
Starting a future I hoped would be woven
With my hand in yours, your hand in mine
Our love would have been forever enshrined

[Pre-Chorus]
But in the moment of truth, your words had failed you
You locked onto the one whom you said you'd no longer pursue
One glance from you revealed what I could not deny
I could no longer hide behind the lie

[Chorus]
So I set you both free
I let you give to her what you should have given to me
And when I moved to the side
It was the moment my heart died
It was the moment my heart died
Now I just stand, with no love in my hand

[Verse Two]
It was hard to ignore the way she looked at you
And the times you both withdrew, thinking I had no clue
I didn't want to believe, didn't want to see
The crystal-clear signs right in front of me

Even when the guilt swayed you to confess
Say, "from now on, I'll keep my feelings suppressed"
I was willing to stay, go on with the day
Just hide all the heartache away

[Pre-Chorus]
I thought I could disguise what I knew
It'd be something to work through (something to break through)
But one glance from you revealed what I could not deny
I could no longer hide behind the lie

[Chorus] (1x)

[Bridge]
The ring on your finger was just like a chain
And when I broke it, all I felt was pain
I had wanted our love to forever remain
But I knew if I kept up the charade
Eventually, it would all fade

[Final Chorus]
So I set you both free
I let you give to her what you should have given to me
And when I moved to the side
It was the moment my heart died
It was the moment my heart died (died)

[Outro]
Now I just stand, with no love in my hand
