I Hear Lady Luck Is Blind
Like Her Sister Justice Ya See,
Because There Hasn’t Been One Time at all,
That She’s Ever looked at Me.

There’s Another Girl Miss Fortune
Who Deals the Cards My Way
And Some One’s Always Slipping Out the Sleeve Ace
First, On the Table Everyday

Got A Jump Out the Gate at The Prime of My Life
We Were All of Sixteen, And Became Man and Wife
I Thought This Was Grande Now, Thought I Was King
Until I Found Out What Responsibility Can Bring
Two Lovely Girls My Wife Gave to Me
Along With Rent, Gas, Phone & Electricity

Well, I Knew New York Was No Place for a Start
Had To Do Some Providing After All That’s My Part
So, We Got on A Plane, Bound for L.A.
Sadly, Saying Goodbye to My Friends of those days

Ya See Went Out West to Make a New Head
Figured I’d Get Rich Here, But I Partied Instead
Had To Grow Up So Fast, Had to Stop Being a Boy
Had To Get Somewhere Quick,
Had To Throw Away My Toys

We Tried So Hard To Make A Go Of It Here
Heid A Good City Job For Well Over A Year
Then My Government Said My You’ve Worked A Long Time
Laid Off A Thousand.
Back On The Unemployment Line

The Recession Came And Work Was Rare
Spent My Days Bitter And Thinking How Unfair
I Dreamt And Dreamt And Planned Certain Ways
Guess I Did That Day After Day

Well I’m Twenty Six Now And Life Stays The Same
Take On Small Time Jobs, Dreaming Of Cars, Lights And Fame
I Say To Myself, This Is It For Me Lord.
I Really Thought I’d Get Up There.
Get My Seat On The Board

Throw Away My Toys

Is that me

A young man looks up and then,
In the mirror sees an older man
Sees a man whose hair has turned to gray
Skin wrinkled What to say?
I don’t feel this way, but yes, it’s me
Because my soul inside (still) feels young and free
Remember rocking in the 80’s
Saw more shows than TV
Had to find a phone booth (with excitement)
When you paged me.
Use to race around town without any care
Had to roll up the windows not to mess up your hair
No, that’s right, there were no buttons there
Didn’t care where we were going, You were by my side
She said no, not blind, let’s look at the Thomas guide
A young man looks up and then
In the mirror sees an older man
See’s a man whose hair has turned to gray
Skin wrinkled. What to say?
Dropped a quarter in the slot for
Printed stories, waiting to be told
Reading the news that was already one day old
We promised to dial each other up on the phone
or a letter from you would arrive at my home
Time has flown by, a new Century

Social media, the internet and this new AI
Sad to say but they’ve all passed me by

Website rivalry, Take a look at me
When all our knowledge came from the library
Their making books and songs now instantly
Just Robotic words with no TLC
A young man looks up and then
In the mirror sees an older man
Sees a man whose hair has turned to gray
Skin wrinkled. What to say?
