**Not So Simple** is an independent alternative rock, pop-punk, and indie rock project founded by Iowa-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Jonathan Levi Sherrod.
Built around emotional honesty, raw storytelling, and intentional imperfection, Not So Simple explores the thoughts, struggles, and experiences that often go unspoken. Blending guitar-driven arrangements, expressive vocals, and deeply personal lyrics, the project delivers music that is both relatable and emotionally authentic.
Sherrod's musical journey began with writing poetry at an early age before evolving into songwriting when he picked up the guitar at thirteen. Growing up surrounded by music, he developed a passion for creating songs that tell meaningful stories and connect with listeners through shared experiences.
Influenced by alternative rock, pop-punk, and indie rock, Not So Simple moves between energetic, rebellious anthems and vulnerable, introspective compositions. Its music explores themes of resilience, relationships, heartbreak, nostalgia, self-discovery, and the complexities of everyday life.
As an independent songwriter, musician, and producer, Sherrod maintains creative control over his music, from initial songwriting through recording and production. He owns his master recordings and controls his original publishing through Buzzards to Eagles Publishing.
Beyond releasing original music, Not So Simple is actively pursuing opportunities in synchronization licensing, songwriting, music composition, and creative collaboration. With a growing catalog of emotionally driven music, the project aims to provide authentic storytelling for film, television, advertising, video games, and other visual media.
At its core, Not So Simple is more than a musical project. It's an outlet for the emotions we struggle to express and a reminder that even our most personal experiences can connect us.
