On Her Alien Stormcloud

Artist: Callum H
Artist's Description
I had this title in my head for months or years before I decided to finally turn it into a full lyric. It's about the love, hurt, acceptance and quiet steeliness that comes with loving someone who doesn't always feel in control of their emotions, realising there's nothing you can really do about it, and ultimately accepting that if your love is true, you will love that part of her too.

On Her Alien Stormcloud

By Callum H
She wakes up angry at the morning
Though the morning’s done no wrong
Pulls the curtains like a verdict
Let’s the darkness linger on
There’s a suitcase in the bedroom
That she’s packed a thousand times
Not because she’s going somewhere
But to see if she still might.

She says the world is getting smaller
I say maybe we’re just tired
She says “That’s what people tell you
When they’ve already compromised”.
Then she laughs and pours the coffee
Like she hasn’t said a thing.

She’s up there on her alien stormcloud
With the lighting in her eyes
Making weather out of memories
And reasons out of lies.
And I could climb up after her
But I don’t know what I’d say
You can’t rescue someone
From a place they haven’t left.

Sometimes she sleeps beside me
And the cloud comes drifting low
I can feel it in the breathing
And hear it in the ‘No’.
So I told her without asking
Where she’s gone or where she’s been
Because love is not the answer
It just leaves the light on.

Last Tuesday she was laughing
At a joke I can’t recall
And for once the sky above her
Didn’t feel so far at all.
She put her hand inside my jacket
As we walked home through the rain
And she says “Maybe I’m not broken,
Maybe I’m just built this way”.

She’s up there on her alien stormcloud
But tonight she’s letting go
And there’s a little patch of starlight
Where the worst of it had grown.
And I won’t tell her to come down
And I won’t tell her she’ll be fine
I’ll just wait here in the garden
‘Til her weather meets with mine.

And if tomorrow brings the thunder
Well we’ve both been here before
We’ll dance through the alien stormcloud
Today and forever more.
