LYRIC FOR SALE

By Brian Marcum

Old man out walking with his dog
two young punks come strolling along
looking to make trouble for someone tonight
and they have put the old man dead in their sights
old man says, don’t need no trouble but if it’s what you thirst
better know a little something bout the two of us first
if you’re gonna take your shot, better make it good
I hope you hear what I’m saying and it’s understood
cause, this won’t be going down easy for you at all
there’s a lot of life left in these old dogs

and we’ve always been down for a good fight
sure not gonna give in easy to anything
that comes after us in this life

two young punks leave them be
old man and his dog head on down the street
toward an appointment the two of them need to keep
at an office they’ve been to before, small sign on the door
reads “only service animals allowed to be within”
old man opens the door his dog follows him
in just a few minutes they were seated in
an exam room waiting for the doc
and the news from some test results he’s got
old man says, doc this won’t be easy for cancer at all
there’s a lot of life left in this old dog

and I’ve always been down for a good fight
sure not gonna give in easy to anything
that comes after me in this life

true strength comes from your state of mind
no matter what stage you are in this life
think you are and you’re going to be hard to beat
no matter if it’s two punks out on the street
or a greater battle that comes your way
have the courage to stand there and say
be like the old man saying it won’t be easy at all
there’s a lot of life left yeah,
yeah, he said there’s a lot of life left in this old dog

and I’ve always been down for a good fight
sure not gonna give in easy to anything
that comes after me in this life

eight months after being diagnosed with cancer
old man’s out walking along with his dog
a little worse for the wear but one hell of a fighter
now a cancer surviver who didn’t make it easy at all
cause he’s got a lot of life yet to live
and who will always be down to give a good fight
against anything that comes after him in this life

yeah, you gotta be like the old man
saying when anything comes after me in this life
yeah you gotta say, I’m Always gonna put in a good fight
cause I’ve gotta lot of life yet to live
I’ve got a lot of life to live in this life
